Happy New Year AMP Students and Families, Now that 2020 has arrived and the second semester of the school year is underway, the events and happenings within the AMP will be plenty and the following are for the week of January 6th. Classes for the second semester will resume on Monday, January 6, 2020. Upcoming Events
Career Development Events With the arrival of the Spring semester, a major focus within the AMP will be on preparing students to compete in Career Development Events (CDEs). CDEs build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage students to put their knowledge into practice. These events are designed to help a student prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student's technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter. Many CDEs are qualifying events for the National FFA CDE competition and/or offer scholarship opportunities. Students travel throughout Texas competing in CDE's that are conducted at major livestock shows (San Antonio, Houston, Austin, etc.) and universities (Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tarleton State, Texas State, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, West Texas A&M, Clarendon, etc.). AMP teachers will be advertising through the AMP classes the various opportunities that students will have to become involved with CDEs in the Spring semester. For a full list of CDEs available to students, click HERE. 1st Semester Report Cards Report cards for the 1st semester will be available to students through Skyward Family Access on Friday, January 10th. The grade a student receives in a course for the semester is what determines if a student receives credit for graduation (70 or higher grade results in credit being awarded). School Holiday - January 20, 2020 Students will have no school on Monday, January 20th in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. Are you Ready to Rodeo? The James Madison FFA Booster Club will again partner with the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo to sell rodeo programs at the 2020 rodeo performances. This is a major fundraiser of the FFA Booster Club and both parent and student volunteers are needed in order for this to be successful. Rodeo program sales will be the first 6 rodeo performances and the time commitment for volunteers is 2-1/2 hours at each rodeo performance. A minimum of 24 volunteers are needed, but we welcome more! To volunteer, go to the following website: https://tinyurl.com/2020SArodeoprogramsales. The rodeo performances are as follows:
