Howdy AMP families and students,
The following are important events and happenings for the week of September 16th. FFA Annual Meat and Cookie Fundraiser On Monday, September 9th, all AMP students received information and sales order brochures for our annual FFA Meat and Cookie Fundraiser. The dates of the fundraiser are from September 9 - 20, 2019. Orders can also be taken by way of a virtual brochure that will allow customers to place their orders on an electronic device and provide the option to pay using a credit/debit card. All meat and cookies ordered through this fundraiser will be delivered to the AMP the week prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. Also note, the Smoked Turkey Breast being sold through this fundraiser will be produced in house by the students in the AMP food processing classes. All fundraiser orders must be submitted to Mrs. Fuller in the AMP Administration Office by 4:15pm on Friday, September 20th. ROUND UP & Benefit Night at Lennys Grill & Subs The James Madison FFA Booster Club has partnered up with Lennys Grill & Subs to raise funds for the AMP Teacher SAE Grants and Teacher Appreciation Day Fund. The goal is to raise over $500.00. Visit Lennys Grill & Subs (17910 Bulverde Rd., Suite #101, San Antonio, TX 78259) between September 16th through October 20th and ROUND UP your total or make a donation while you enjoy their delicious subs and more! To kick off the ROUND UP, Lenny's will also be hosting a JM FFA Booster Club Benefit Night on Monday, September 16th from 4:00pm until close and will donate 15% of all receipts from sales between those hours and people indicate they want to support the James Madison FFA. Click HERE to view Lenny's menu. 2019 SAE Grant Program is Now Available The James Madison FFA Booster Club is pleased to announce that the 2019 Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) Grant Program is now available for James Madison FFA members to make application for funding. The purpose of the SAE Grant program is to provide FFA members with an opportunity to establish, improve, and/or maintain their SAE program through financial assistance. The James Madison FFA Booster Club is responsible for reviewing, awarding and administering the SAE Grant program. The James Madison FFA Booster Club will determine the final amount of funds awarded to a FFA member not to exceed $500 per awarded grant. The application period for the 2019-2020 school year is September 16, 2019 through October 31, 2019. For information about the qualifications and expectations for the SAE Grant Program and to download an application, please visit the following link on the AMP website: http://agrisciencemagnetprogram.weebly.com/sae-grant-fund.html Annual James Madison FFA Chili Cook-off The 2019 James Madison FFA Chili Cook-Off will be held in conjunction with the monthly meeting for the James Madison FFA Booster Club on Monday, October 7th. We will again have an adult and student divisions to the cook-off. So FFA members and their parents/guardians are both encouraged to participate by entering their favorite chili recipe to compete for the title of "Chili Cook-Off Champion"! Students and adults can submit their Chili Cook-Off entry online by going to: http://agrisciencemagnetprogram.weebly.com/chili-cook-off.html. There is no cost to enter, so go ahead and click that link to earn your bragging rights! Contestants may check-in and set up their chili cook-off entries from 4:30pm to 5:30pm on Monday, October 7th in the AMP Commons. Chili must be ready for judging and serving by 6:00pm. Click the link above for more details, rules and entry forms. Guidance and Counseling News Attention Seniors! Madison High School has recently been given the opportunity to offer a free-of-charge SAT test on October 16th. The test will be administered during the regular school day! In order to participate in this great opportunity afforded to us by the Texas Education Agency, Seniors must sign up in the counseling office by September 17th with Mrs. Avalos in the counseling office. Please note: If a Senior signs up for the test, the Senior MUST be present for the test. The following universities will be visiting the GO Center this semester. Students can sign up to visit with the representative in the GO Center before or after school. September 18th: Texas State University- San Marcos, 9 am September 30th : University of Texas at Austin, 9 am October 1st : Texas A&M University - San Antonio, 9 am October 10th: Texas A&M University- College Station, 9 am October 21st : Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, 9 am October 22nd : Trinity University, 9 am November 13th: Texas A&M University- College Station, 9am The Counseling Office welcomes Mr. Monty McKeon and Sarah Gonyea to Madison HS! Mr. McKeon is our College Adviser in the GO Center. He works with students and parents regarding the college application process, financial aid (FAFSA), scholarship/college/career/major searches, ACT/SAT sign up, resume writing. Ms. Gonyea is our San Antonio Education Partnership adviser. She is on our campus on Wednesdays in the GO Center. She assists also with college needs. She is our expert on the Café College Scholarship application process. Her email address is [email protected]. GO Center office number is 210-356-1416. Hours are 8 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students must have a pass from their teacher during school hours. Any student may visit before and after school without a pass. We strongly especially encourage all SENIORS who are college bound to visit the GO Center! Reminder to Return Documentation On Friday, August 23rd, returning AMP students received a 2019-2020 AMP Student Contract, and if applicable, 2019-2020 CTE Transfer Request Form so that these documents can be up-to-date. It is very important that these documents be returned promptly to the AMP office. 2019-2020 James Madison FFA Dues One of the expectations for every AMP student is to be an active participant in the AMP. Active participation can be achieved by becoming a member of the James Madison FFA (the student leadership organization for AMP students) and participating in any of the literally 100+ FFA activities that will be offered this school year. FFA dues are $20.00 for the entire school year and we are accepting dues payments (cash or check) in the AMP Administration office. Get connected with us!
