Howdy AMP families and students, The following are important events and happenings for the week of September 30th. ROUND UP & Benefit Night at Lennys Grill & Subs The James Madison FFA Booster Club has partnered up with Lennys Grill & Subs to raise funds for the AMP Teacher SAE Grants and Teacher Appreciation Day Fund. The goal is to raise over $500.00. Visit Lennys Grill & Subs (17910 Bulverde Rd., Suite #101, San Antonio, TX 78259) between September 16th through October 20th and ROUND UP your total or make a donation while you enjoy their delicious subs and more! 2019 North East Ag Fair Everyone is cordially invited to the 9th Annual North East Ag Fair to be held on Saturday, October 26th from 8:00am to 4:00pm at the AMP Complex. The purpose of the Ag Fair is to engage our North East community in a day full of activities showcasing the skills of students in the AMP through events such as livestock exhibition, agricultural mechanics skill-a-thon, BBQ cook-off, and a Baked Goods and Photography contest. The day will also host retail vendors and a Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume contest to ensure something for the whole family. Besides the North East Ag Fair Livestock Show, there are several other ways that students can participate and compete during the Ag Fair: "The Fastest Torch in the West" Contest, Ag Mechanics Build-Off Contest, BBQ Cook-Off Competition, Baked Goods Contest, and Agriculture Photography Contest. Entry forms and information about these contest opportunities for all students can be found on the AMP website at http://agrisciencemagnetprogram.weebly.com/north-east-ag-fair.html. The FFA Booster Club is also putting out an ALL CALL to interested retail vendors that would like to sell their goods and/or services at the 2019 Ag Fair. So if you or someone you know would like to be a vendor, attached is a retail vendor registration packet with details about this opportunity and a registration form. Annual James Madison FFA Chili Cook-off The 2019 James Madison FFA Chili Cook-Off will be held in conjunction with the monthly meeting for the James Madison FFA Booster Club on Monday, October 7th. We will again have an adult and student divisions to the cook-off. So FFA members and their parents/guardians are both encouraged to participate by entering their favorite chili recipe to compete for the title of "Chili Cook-Off Champion"! Students and adults can submit their Chili Cook-Off entry online by going to: http://agrisciencemagnetprogram.weebly.com/chili-cook-off.html. There is no cost to enter, so go ahead and click that link to earn your bragging rights! Contestants may check-in and set up their chili cook-off entries from 4:30pm to 5:30pm on Monday, October 7th in the AMP Commons. Chili must be ready for judging and serving by 6:00pm. FFA Booster Club is Seeking Buckle Sponsorships The FFA Booster Club is in need of individual and business sponsorships for the custom trophy belt buckles that will be awarded this year at the North East Ag Fair, the Fall Challenge Lamb and Goat Prospect Show, the Showmanship Shootout, and the AMP Awards Gala. In all, 36 belt buckles will be awarded this year and the sponsorship cost is $150 per buckle. Sponsors may make their donation online at https://squareup.com/market/james-madison-ffa-booster. Guidance and Counseling News Financial Aid / FAFSA Night - October 2nd The JMHS Counseling Department is hosting a Financial Aid and FAFSA information event for graduating Seniors and their parents on October 2nd from 4:15pm to 7:00pm in the JMHS Library. This is a come and go event to learn more about financial aid, scholarships, grants and completing the FAFSA application. Six Weeks Progress Reports Progress reports for the 6 weeks period will be made available to parents/guardians through Family Access by Thursday, October 3rd. If students are in need of tutoring or extra support, please find the tutoring schedules attached to this post for the English, mathematics, science, and social studies departments. NEISD College Night - October 30th The annual NEISD College Night will take place at Blossom Athletic Center on October 30th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Over 100 colleges and universities will be in attendance and financial aid sessions will be held for parents. More information about the event is attached to the bottom of this post. Meet the Madison Family Specialist My name is Veronica Villegas and I am the Family Specialist at Madison High School. I started my journey as a NEISD Family Specialist in 2013. I want to share a little bit about my background. I have a B.A. in Psychology, M.A. in Guidance and Counseling and my M.Ed. in Special Education. Licensed Professional Counselor, this means that I am completing 3,000 to obtain my permanent license through the state (Supervised by Dr. Christie Melonson, LPC-S License #63872). I have worked in the social services field since 2006. For more than 8 years, I have worked in an educational setting providing services for students, parents and teachers. I have had the opportunity to work with families all over San Antonio, providing Medicaid education, parenting education, case management and college readiness support. I have 4 years of experience working with an evidence-based behavioral model that addressed both prevention and intervention strategies for families and their children. I organize and provide ongoing classes and workshops for the Madison Family Engagement Leadership Academy. I will also help organize and implement various events for the students and their families. Dual credit is when the student is able to earn high school credit and college credit at the same time. Students will receive college credit through Palo Alto College and they are able to transfer their college credit to the university that they attend after graduation.
