National FFA Week Celebration National FFA Week is February 22-29, 2020. The James Madison FFA officer team has created a way for all FFA members to celebrate FFA Week with daily dress up days.
Chapter FFA Degree Application The online application window is currently open until March 6, 2020 at 5:00pm for students to apply for the Chapter FFA Degree. The Chapter FFA Degree is a membership degree for FFA members that are in at least their second year of membership and have obtained the Greenhand FFA Degree. The application is an online process and can be accessed by clicking HERE. The official ceremony for the Chapter FFA Degree will be held on March 23, 2020 at 6:30pm in the AMP Commons. Texas Agricultural Education Leadership Conference The Texas FFA Foundation is hosting a first-of-its-kind conference, "Growing Our Future", for agriculture science students to learn from the likes of Temple Grandin, Red Steagall, Bob Tallman, and many others. The conference will be held at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX on April 19-20, 2020. Students can register online at http://weblink.donorperfect.com/growingourfuture. (Early Rate: $65 per student before March 16 Regular Rate: $75 per student March 16 – March 31) Registration includes three meals and a t-shirt. T-shirts will be provided to student attendees registered before March 31. There is complimentary registration for parents or chaperones. A registration brochure is attached to this post with more information and daily schedule. FFA Letter Jacket The Spring 2020 fitting and ordering for a FFA Letter Jacket will be held on Monday, March 23rd from 4:15pm to 5:00pm in the AMP Commons. To purchase a FFA Letter Jacket, students must complete the FFA Letter Jacket application (attached to this email) and return the completed application to the AMP Administration office by Friday, March 20th before receiving a letter jacket ordering packet. Letter jacket packages start at $74 and representatives will be fitting qualified students for jackets and taking orders on Monday, March 23rd. Payment in full must be made at the time of fitting and ordering. Guidance and Counseling News Have You Been Accepted? Seniors, if you have been accepted to a college or university, please bring a copy of your acceptance letter to the AMP Administration office so that we can recognize your accomplishment on our "Con-GRAD-ulations" bulletin board. Deadline to turn in scholarship award letters for printing in the Graduation Ceremony program is May 1. Deadline to submit the ONE scholarship to be announced at Graduation is May 22. Scholarship Opportunities All seniors planning to go to college/university should complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to see if you qualify for grants, loans and/or institution scholarships. The FAFSA opened on October 1st and is available at www.fafsa.gov FFA Scholarship Opportunities Seniors that are interested in applying for the Texas FFA Scholarship, Bexar County FFA Scholarship, James Madison FFA Scholarship, and the James Madison FFA Booster Club Scholarship need to go by AG130 as soon as possible and see Mr. Anderson to receive information on the application process for these scholarships. Scholarships range in amounts of $1,000 to $20,000. Capital Farm Credit Scholarship Deadline: March 6, 2020 Every year Capital Farm Credit rewards scholarships to deserving seniors across the state of Texas. This year the San Antonio office will be rewarding two one-time scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00 each. The deadline to have scholarships turned into the San Antonio office has been extended to March 6, 2020. This year, they plan to begin announcing scholarship recipients on Ag Day, March 24, 2020. Surita Wyatt Scholarship Application Deadline: March 13, 2020 The application for the Surita Wyatt Scholarship is now active on the NEISD CTE webpage. One CTE senior from each of the 8 high schools will receive a scholarship in the amount of $750 to further their education upon graduation from high school. In addition, one student will be awarded a $1500 scholarship and named the overall senior CTE student for NEISD. The criteria for selection include the following actions:
The Surita Wyatt scholarship application window will be open from January 31, 2020 until March 13, 2020, 11:59 PM. All applicants will return their completed application to the NEISD CTE Business & Advisory Council. The email address for the CTEBIC can be found on the scholarship application and on the CTE Website. Incomplete applications and applications received after the March 13, 2020, 11:59 PM deadline will not be considered. The fillable scholarship application is posted below for your convenience. San Antonio Chapter of The Links, 2020 Scholarship Deadline: March 7, 2020 $2,500 scholarship awards to seniors who support their community and plan to attend college or university after high school. Texas Department of Transportation Grants awarded to seniors planning to study civil engineering or other disciplines approved by TxDOT. Students could receive $3,000 per semester based on financial need. Arash Law Scholarship Deadline: June 1, 2020 $1,000 scholarship awarded to a senior planning to enter the law field. Chairish "Design Your Future" Scholarship Deadline: June 30, 2020 Scholarship offered to 2 students from diverse backgrounds who plan to major in design-related fields such as architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and engineering.

Ducks Unlimited Deadline: March 1, 2020 Ducks Unlimited (DU) launched its inaugural national scholarship program offering graduating high school seniors who are DU members* the opportunity to advance their education. The application deadline each year is March 1st. DU will annually award 61 one-time scholarships to eligible applicants at the following levels:

Jason Krueger Memorial Scholarship Deadline: April 10, 2020 Applicants must be a senior in high school, an active FFA or 4-H member, and have shown a steer in one or more of the major livestock shows. Schaefer Outfitter Scholarship Deadline: April 30, 2020 Schaefer Outfitter will offer a scholarship of $1,000 to be paid to any college or university towards the cost of tuition. For this scholarship opportunity, you must be applying to enroll in college for the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 semesters to study Agriculture, or already be enrolled in a related program. The deadline is April 30, 2020. AgDiscovery: Investing in the Future of American Agriculture AgDiscovery is a summer outreach program designed to help teenagers explore careers in plant and animal science, wildlife management, agribusiness, and much more! The program allows students to live on a college campus and learn about agriculture from university professors, scientists, and administrative professionals who work for the U.S. Government in a variety of fields. They study the life cycles and habits of insects (entomologists); research micro-organisms, such as bacteria and viruses (biotechnologists); examine cells and tissues under a microscope to identify diseases (plant pathologists); work to conserve and manage wild animals and their habitats (wildlife biologists); carry out animal health programs (veterinarians); provide education on the humane care and treatment of animals (veterinarians and animal care inspectors); and manage the business aspects of protecting plants and animals (agribusiness). This 2- to 4-week summer outreach program for 2020 targets middle and high school students who are interested in learning more about plants, animals, and agribusiness. Students chosen to participate in AgDiscovery will gain experience through hands-on labs, workshops, and field trips. Students will also participate in character- and team-building activities and a variety of other events. There is no cost to attend the AgDiscovery 2020 summer program. Tuition, room and board, lab supplies, meals, and activity fees will be covered by APHIS. Students selected for the program are only responsible for costs that may be associated with traveling to the university campus on opening day and returning home at the conclusion of the program on closing day. John Deere TECH Open House Many of the John Deere Dealerships throughout the nation are in need of highly trained technicians to fill a shortage of qualified techs today. The John Deere TECH Program at Navarro College can help in securing trained technicians to fill Dealership needs. Students that have an interest in Agriculture Mechanization are invited to attend the Annual Open House Event for the John Deere TECH Program at Navarro College in Corsicana Texas. Attached to this post you will find the invitation flier for the open house. In the John Deere TECH program, students are sponsored by participating John Deere Dealerships where the student works part time. Upon completion of the program, many of the students are rolled from a part time job to a full time employment with the dealerships. It is a way to gain employment into the Agriculture Mechanization field. The Open House will have educational sessions on many of the core aspects of a John Deere Technician, operation and participation of John Deere Equipment as well as requirements for admission and acceptance into this program. Guidance and Counseling News 2020 - 2021 School Year Course Registration Process A reminder that students should be entering their schedule requests into their Student/Family Portal accounts in Skyward. If students need any assistance or have questions about courses, please contact Mrs. Guerrero at [email protected]. FREE SAT Exam for Juniors! Madison High School will be administering the SAT Exam to all 11th grade students for FREE on April 14th. Pre-registration is not needed since all 11th grade students will be taking the exam during the school day. Mrs. Guerrero, AMP Counselor, will be meeting with 11th grade students during their AMP class on Monday, February 10th to discuss SAT Exam study materials and resources. Core Class (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies ) Dual Credit Applications with San Antonio College Dual Credit applications are now available with Mrs. Guerrero. Students will receive two packets: Red (ApplyTexas Handbook) and Green (Academic Dual Credit Handbook). Students must first complete the ApplyTexas application (Red packet) before they are able to complete and submit the Green packet. Students can pick up the application packets from their counselor. Once both packets have been completed, students will need to submit the Green packet to the counselor, Mrs. Ozuna-Martinez. Deadlines are as follows: Red Packet - February 28, 2020 Green Packet - March 6, 2020 Students can qualify for Dual Credit admission based on their PSAT/NMSQT and/or their TSI scores. 1. San Antonio Cactus and Xerophyte Society Larry Murphy Memorial Scholarship Deadline: April 30, 2020 This scholarship is intended to cover tuition and fees for one year payable to the recipient. Prior winners can apply again. Must plan to major in biology, botany, or landscape design. Must have a GPA of 2.75. Must attend a trade school, college, or university within Texas. San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Program Sales The James Madison FFA Booster Club will again partner with the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo to sell rodeo programs at the 2020 rodeo performances on February 6th - 9th. All volunteers should attend a training meeting on Tuesday, February 4th at 6:30pm in the AMP Commons to receive training, credentials, and passes. Students must attend either the morning or afternoon meeting session to pick up a CTE Dual Credit packet and learn important information about Dual Credit. Students wanting to earn Dual Credit in Floral Design, Wildlife, Horticulture, and Agribusiness will not need to attend the meeting on February 6th. Mrs. Guerrero will meet with those students in August 2020 to enroll them in their Dual Credit courses with Palo Alto. The FAFSA opened on October 1st and is available at www.fafsa.gov 1994 Tribal Scholars Program Deadline: February 9, 2020 The USDA 1994 Tribal Scholars Program provides full tuition, fees, books, and workforce training to eligible students pursuing degrees in agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, or related academic disciplines. After completing academic and summer work requirements, the USDA may convert the student to a permanent employee without further competition. 2020 San Antonio A&M Club Foundation Opportunity Award Scholarship Deadline: March 5, 2020 The San Antonio A&M Club, through its Foundation, awards academic scholarships to high school students from Bexar County who have been unconditionally accepted to Texas A&M University at either the College Station or Galveston Campus. Eligible students must reside in Bexar County or attend high school in Bexar County at the time of graduation. This scholarship is awarded by the San Antonio A&M Club Foundation and is over and above any scholarship for which you might apply at the University level. In April of 2020, they will award eight $12,000 scholarships to freshmen entering Texas A&M for the 2020 Fall Semester. The scholarship award totals $12,000 and is distributed at a rate of $1,500 each semester for the student’s first 8 semesters, not including summer sessions. Recipients must maintain the minimum standards set by the San Antonio A&M Club Foundation in order to continue to receive the scholarship. Attached to this post is a copy of the updated 2020 scholarship application. Additional information about the scholarships and additional applications can be obtained from their website at www.aggiepark.com. Lockheed Martin Vocational Scholarship Application Deadline: March 12, 2020 Lockheed Martin has established a new scholarship program to provide opportunities to students pursuing a degree or vocational-technical certificate at a vocational-technical school, trade school, two-year community college or state college. In 2020, up to 151 awards of $6,600 each are offered for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.
