The final week for the 2021-2022 school year has finally arrived! This is the final edition of the weekly AMP Happenings for this school year. The following are important events and happenings for the week of May 23rd.

2022 AMP Awards Gala
This year's AMP Awards Gala was held this past Tuesday, May 17th at 6:30pm in the AMP Arena. The evening began with a keynote address from Texas FFA  President, Ember Reyes, who also presented Mr. Raul Quiroz with a 20 year service award and a beautiful Red Oak tree that will be planted on the AMP Complex to commemorate the legacy of Mr. Quiroz for generations to come.

We then celebrated the many accomplishments that happened over this school year in Leadership Development Events, Career Development Events, Speaking Development Events, and Agriscience Fair. And, this year's winners of the Star Greenhand FFA, Chapter FFA, and Lone Star FFA Degree members were announced along with the winners of our Proficiency and Supervised Agriculture Experience awards.

Another highlight from the Awards Gala was the recognition of our graduating seniors that were awarded $79,000 in scholarships by the James Madison FFA Booster Club and the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Congratulations to the following students on earning a FFA scholarship:

Session II: June 27 - July 15, 2022 (Monday - Thursday, Last Friday)

Bexar County FFA Scholarship Recipients Named
The 2022 Bexar County FFA Scholarship Program selected 6 students from the Bexar County FFA Chapters to be the recipients of a $20,000 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Scholarship. Congratulations to Kiarra August and Nathan Rawe on each receiving this distinguished honor of a $20,000 scholarship!

'Tis the season for students to become involved in Agriscience Fair research and competition. Students interested in taking part in this awesome experience need to see Mr. Anderson and attend the informational Agriscience Fair meeting on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 4:30PM in AG130.

Exams for the 2nd Semester will be given on Thursday, May 19th through Friday, May 27th. A detailed exam schedule can be found attached to this blog post.

Students may exempt up to 3 semester exams in courses that they have an average of an 85 or higher (please see attachment to this blog for exam exemption guidelines). Students will request exam exemptions through the Skyward Student Access application beginning at 7:00AM on May 11th through 4:30PM on May 13th.

Scholarship Opportunities
​Safari Club International Scholarship
A scholarship opportunity being provided by the San Antonio Chapter of the Safari Club International, a non-profit serving South Texas for more than 25 years. The chapter's mission is to create opportunities for conservation of natural resources through sponsorship, education, and preservation of our hunting heritage. They accomplish this by providing youth hunts, sponsoring wounded warrior hunts, and providing educational support for the next generation of conservationists with a passion for wildlife management or veterinarian studies by giving scholarships.

The Chapter is offering five (5) $1,000 scholarships to deserving graduating seniors that are pursuing post-secondary studies in majors/careers associated with wildlife management and/or veterinary science. These scholarships have the possibility of being rewarded to a recipient on a multi-year basis.


To be considered for a scholarship, students need to write the chapter's Board of Directors describing who they are, what course work and activities they have been involved with while in high school, what their chosen post-secondary major/career is and how this plan of study might contribute to the chapter's mission (can be found at www.alamosci.org), and provide the name of the post-secondary institution that they have been accepted into and which semester they will begin.

James Madison FFA Members Earn More State Titles
Thirty (30) members of the James Madison FFA competed in another round of Texas FFA State Career Development Events on Friday, April 29th and Saturday, April 30th, hosted by Sam Houston State University and Texas A&M University. 

FFA members earned two more state championships with wins in the Agriculture Technical and Mechanical Systems contest coached by Mr. Rode and the Marketing Plan contest coached by Mrs. McMullan. Both teams earned a bid to represent the state of Texas at the National FFA Convention and Expo in their respective contests in October 2022.

​A yearly tradition that AMP students look forward to are the video slideshows that are an important part of our AMP Awards Gala. We are in need of your photos for the End of the Year (EOY) slideshow and the Senior Tribute video.

May JM FFA Booster Club General Meeting - Thursday, May 5, 2022
The next monthly meeting of the FFA Booster Club will be Thursday, May 5th at 6:30pm in the AMP Commons. All parents/guardians of AMP students are encouraged to attend as the major items of business will be the election of the 2022-2023 Booster Club Executive Board and the distribution of the 2021 AMP Livestock Expo Premium checks.

Aggie Day in SA
Texas A&M University just announced that they will once again be hosting their annual Aggie Day in SA on Saturday, June 25th from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at the Mercantile Building (40 NE Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78216).

Fightin' Texas Aggie Meat Judging Camp
The Animal Science Department at Texas A&M University is inviting students to the 2022 Texas Aggie Meat Judging Camp July 21-23, 2022. This year will be a fun filled 2½ days of meat judging with the 2022 Fightin’ Texas Aggie Meat Judging Team, as well as, an exciting tour of Kyle Field on Friday morning. Student will be provided lodging and meals for the camp. Campers will learn the fundamentals of evaluation, selection, and grading of beef, pork, and lamb carcasses and cuts.

Attention Seniors - Submit your College and Scholarship Information
As graduation nears, we are in need of some information from all seniors. If you will be attending college and have earned 1 or more scholarships, please fill out the the form below. It is very important for us to know what scholarships you have earned and the value of each scholarship.

Each senior can have 1 scholarship announced at graduation. Please decide which scholarship you want announced and list it on the form. Once you decide, there will be no changes or additions. This form should only be filled out one time and will close on Tuesday, April 26th at 12:00 pm.

James Madison FFA Booster Club Scholarship Application
Deadline: May 6, 2022

The deadline has been extended until MAY 6th at 4:20pm to submit your completed scholarship application. 
This application is a fillable PDF and can be found below attached to this post. Please download the application and save it to your computer. After saving the file, enter your information and then print the document to bring to Mrs. Cooper in the AMP office by 4:20PM on Friday, May 6th.
If you run into any issues, please visit with Mr. Anderson in his classroom. If you already have the application started or completed from the previous deadline, you do not need to complete a new application.
Again, if you have questions, please see Mr. Anderson prior to the deadline…and not the day that it is due.

Alamo Community Colleges Foundation Scholarships
Deadline: May 1, 2022

Graduating Seniors that are considering or planning enrollment at one of the Alamo Community Colleges for the 2022-2023 academic year, should complete Alamo Community Colleges online scholarship application as soon as possible.
There are a few significant changes to the application for this year:

  1. May 1, 2022 is the only deadline for scholarships and it applies to the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters.
  2. No essay is required!
  3. Transcripts are not required!

Agronomy Team Earns Texas FFA Championship Title
The James Madison FFA Agronomy team competed this past Saturday, April 23rd, at the Texas FFA State Career Development Events hosted by Texas Tech University and earned the State Championship title!

Team members included Reagan DeCoulaz scoring 3rd High Point Individual, Luke Anderson scoring 4th High Point Individual, Madison Wilburn scoring 6th High Point Individual, and Tori Moberly scoring 8th High Point Individual. With this State Championship title, the Agronomy team has also earned the right to represent Texas at the 95th National FFA Convention & Expo to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana in October 2022. Congratulations to the students and their coach, Mrs. Dalton.

James Madison FFA also had three other teams compete in the Texas FFA State Career Development Events at Texas Tech University on Saturday. Those teams and members were:

​2022 AMP Awards Application
As we do at the end of each school year, the AMP recognizes student achievements from throughout the school year in many different areas. 

The 2022 AMP Awards Application is now available for students to apply to 38 different award categories for recognition. For a student to be considered for any of the award categories, they must check the award area that they are applying for and briefly explain why they should receive the award. Students may apply for multiple award categories, however, must submit a separate award application for each category.

Award applications must be submitted online through the following link and are due by April 29, 2022:   https://forms.gle/kxHJoY1yKqcXCYhB7.

Award winners will be recognized at the 2022 AMP Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

May JM FFA Booster Club General Meeting - Thursday, May 5, 2022
The next monthly meeting of the FFA Booster Club will be Thursday, May 5th at 6:30pm in the AMP Commons. All parents/guardians of AMP students are encouraged to attend as the major items of business will be the election of the 2022-2023 Booster Club Executive Board and the distribution of the 2021 AMP Livestock Expo Premium checks.

2022 AMP Awards Gala
This year's AMP Awards Gala will be held on Tuesday, May 17th at 6:30pm in the AMP Arena.

The annual gala is our opportunity to celebrate the many accomplishments that happened over this school year in the AMP and James Madison FFA. To name just a few, students will be recognized for their participation in Leadership Development Events, Career Development Events, Speaking Development Events, and Agriscience Fair.

We will also be recognizing our Star Greenhand FFA, Chapter FFA, and Lone Star FFA Degree members along with announcing the winners of our Proficiency and Supervised Agriculture Experience awards.

And money... The James Madison FFA Booster Club will be presenting scholarships to deserving graduating Seniors.

Veterinary Enrichment Camp
Are you interested in becoming a veterinarian? Texas A&M is looking for current high school 10th and 11th graders to attend the 2022 Summer Virtual Veterinary Enrichment Camp. The virtual camp will be held on July 19 - 20, 2022. The cost of the camp is $100 and the deadline to apply is April 30, 2022.

Fightin' Texas Aggie Meat Judging Camp
The Animal Science Department at Texas A&M University is inviting students to the 2022 Texas Aggie Meat Judging Camp July 21-23, 2022. This year will be a fun filled 2½ days of meat judging with the 2022 Fightin’ Texas Aggie Meat Judging Team, as well as, an exciting tour of Kyle Field on Friday morning. Student will be provided lodging and meals for the camp. Campers will learn the fundamentals of evaluation, selection, and grading of beef, pork, and lamb carcasses and cuts.

Texas Farm Bureau Student Success Series Information
Student Success Series is designed to engage 8th-12th grade students in programming intended to develop professional and leadership skills, prepare them with tools to effectively advocate for agriculture, grow confidence, and network. More detailed information about each of the events, associated registration deadlines, and more can be found  here .
 
The current event open for registration and closing May 1 is our Engage event. Engage is for Classes of 2024 and 2025. These students will have the opportunity to learn more about Texas Farm Bureau, become familiar with entrepreneurship by engaging with community leaders in discussions, gain insight into the free enterprise system, and learn how to navigate and have an engaging presence on social media and in digital environments. There is a $10 registration fee associated with the event and is not due at the time of registration. These events will take place throughout Texas Farm Bureau’s 13 Districts. Students wishing to participate do not have to be Texas Farm Bureau members and can register here.

As graduation nears, we are in need of some information from all seniors. If you will be attending college and have earned 1 or more scholarships, please fill out the the form below. It is very important for us to know what scholarships you have earned and the value of each scholarship.

Each senior can have 1 scholarship announced at graduation. Please decide which scholarship you want announced and list it on the form. Once you decide, there will be no changes or additions. This form should only be filled out one time and will close on Tuesday, April 26th at 12:00 pm.

Texas FFA Foundation Scholarship
Deadline: April 29, 2022

The Texas FFA Foundation wants to congratulate the graduating Seniors of the Class of 2022! And to do so, parents/guardians of a graduating Texas FFA member can nominate their student for a chance to win one of three $1,000 scholarships!

Each nominated graduating Texas FFA member will receive a congratulatory certificate from the Texas FFA Foundation and a chance at a $1,000 scholarship. Safari Club International Scholarship
A scholarship opportunity being provided by the San Antonio Chapter of the Safari Club International, a non-profit serving South Texas for more than 25 years. The chapter's mission is to create opportunities for conservation of natural resources through sponsorship, education, and preservation of our hunting heritage. They accomplish this by providing youth hunts, sponsoring wounded warrior hunts, and providing educational support for the next generation of conservationists with a passion for wildlife management or veterinarian studies by giving scholarships.

The Chapter is offering five (5) $1,000 scholarships to deserving graduating seniors that are pursuing post-secondary studies in majors/careers associated with wildlife management and/or veterinary science. These scholarships have the possibility of being rewarded to a recipient on a multi-year basis.


To be considered for a scholarship, students need to write the chapter's Board of Directors describing who they are, what course work and activities they have been involved with while in high school, what their chosen post-secondary major/career is and how this plan of study might contribute to the chapter's mission (can be found at www.alamosci.org), and provide the name of the post-secondary institution that they have been accepted into and which semester they will begin.

Deadline: April 29, 2022
The Rotary Club of San Antonio will grant five (5) $500 scholarships to area graduating high school seniors from Bexar County who plan to pursue a career in Agrilife (to include Agribusiness).

Eligibility:
  1. Currently enrolled in a high school in Bexar County. 
  2. Classified as a Senior during the 2021-2022 School year.
  3. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  4. Cannot be the child or grandchild of a Rotarian.
  5. Must plan on attending college during the 2022-2023 academic year at an accredited college or university.
  6. Must be pursuing a degree in Agri-Life (to include Agribusiness)

Alamo Community Colleges Foundation Scholarships
Deadline: May 1, 2022

Graduating Seniors that are considering or planning enrollment at one of the Alamo Community Colleges for the 2022-2023 academic year, should complete Alamo Community Colleges online scholarship application as soon as possible.
There are a few significant changes to the application for this year:

  1. May 1, 2022 is the only deadline for scholarships and it applies to the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters.
  2. No essay is required!
  3. Transcripts are not required!

​2022 AMP Livestock Expo Species Breakout Sessions - Tuesday, April 19th
The AMP Livestock Expo is a platform where AMP students can gain knowledge and experience in actual production agriculture through the raising and exhibiting of a livestock animal. The possibility of raising a livestock project (goats, lambs, rabbits, or swine) is a fantastic way to get hands on skills in agriculture and is one of many ways a student can meet the goal of having a Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) project in the AMP.

The AMP staff will be sharing information about the opportunity to raise and exhibit a livestock animal at the 
2022 AMP Livestock Expo (generally known as the JV livestock program) through individual breakout sessions for goats, lambs, rabbits, and swine from 7:00PM to 8:00PM on Tuesday, April 19th in the AMP Complex. Students and parents/guardians will be able to attend two breakout sessions of their choice that evening.

An informational presentation about the AMP Livestock Expo and all necessary documents are now posted on the AMP Livestock Expo website (
https://amplivestockexpo.weebly.com). Students and parents/guardians should view the informational presentation prior to attending the species breakout sessions on April 19th. 

2023 Major Show Swine Projects
If a student is interested in learning more about raising and exhibiting a swine project for the 2023 major shows, Ms. Molitor is hosting an interest meeting for students and their parent/guardian on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 6:00PM in AG141. 2022 AMP Awards Application
As we do at the end of each school year, the AMP recognizes student achievements from throughout the school year in many different areas. 

The 2022 AMP Awards Application is now available for students to apply to 38 different award categories for recognition. For a student to be considered for any of the award categories, they must check the award area that they are applying for and briefly explain why they should receive the award. Students may apply for multiple award categories, however, must submit a separate award application for each category.

Award applications must be submitted online through the following link and are due by April 29, 2022:   https://forms.gle/kxHJoY1yKqcXCYhB7.

Award winners will be recognized at the 2022 AMP Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

NEISD is providing extended after hours tutoring for high school students from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Monday through Thursday. Tutoring is available in the following core courses: English I, II, III & IV, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, OnRamps Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

The NEISD CTE Business & Advisory Council will be awarding four scholarships in the amount of $500 to graduating NEISD seniors that have been active in taking CTE courses while in high school. In addition, one student will be awarded a $1000 scholarship and named the overall senior CTE student for NEISD.

​The criteria for selection include the following actions:
  1. Participation in Career and Technical (CTE) courses (all courses in AMP are CTE courses). 
  2. Demonstrate success in academic areas.
  3. Exhibits evidence of personal character and leadership.

​2022-2023 James Madison FFA Chapter Officer Application
The James Madison FFA Chapter is looking for dedicated and hard-working students to serve as chapter officer for the 2022-2023 school year. Each year the chapter officer team plans and implements chapter events and encourages members to participate.

In order to be considered for a chapter officer position, interested students and a parent/guardian must attend a MANDATORY meeting on Tuesday, April 5th at 6:00PM in the AG130.

If a student and/or parent/guardian are unable to attend the mandatory meeting, they must contact Mr. Anderson (
[email protected]) by Monday, April 4th to schedule a make-up session.

FFA Chapter Degree Ceremony - April 7th

AMP students receiving their Chapter FFA Degree will be recognized at a ceremony on Thursday, April 7th at 6:00PM in the AMP Commons prior to the FFA Booster Club General Meeting. Following the Booster Club meeting, there will be sweets for the students and their parents.

April JM FFA Booster Club General Meeting - Thursday, April 7, 2022
The next monthly meeting of the FFA Booster Club will be Thursday, April 7th at 6:30pm in the AMP Commons. All parents/guardians of AMP students are encouraged to join us for the Booster Club meeting.

Major agenda items for the April meeting will be the nomination of the 2022-2023 Executive Board for the FFA Booster Club and distribution of the 2022 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction checks.

2022 AMP Livestock Expo Species Breakout Sessions - Tuesday, April 19th
The AMP Livestock Expo is a platform where AMP students can gain knowledge and experience in actual production agriculture through the raising and exhibiting of a livestock animal. The possibility of raising a livestock project (goats, lambs, rabbits, or swine) is a fantastic way to get hands on skills in agriculture and is one of many ways a student can meet the goal of having a Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) project in the AMP.

The AMP staff will be sharing information about the opportunity to raise and exhibit a livestock animal at the 
2022 AMP Livestock Expo (generally known as the JV livestock program) through individual breakout sessions for goats, lambs, rabbits, and swine from 7:00PM to 8:00PM on Tuesday, April 19th in the AMP Complex. Students and parents/guardians will be able to attend two breakout sessions of their choice that evening.

We will post an informational presentation about the AMP Livestock Expo and all necessary documents on the AMP Livestock Expo website in the coming weeks (
https://amplivestockexpo.weebly.com). Students and parents/guardians should view the informational presentation prior to attending the species breakout sessions on April 19th. 

2023 Major Show Goat Projects
If a student is interested in learning more about raising and exhibiting a goat project for the 2023 major shows, Mrs. Leita is hosting an interest meeting for students and their parent/guardian on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 6:00PM in AG120. 2023 Major Show Lamb Projects
If a student is interested in learning more about raising and exhibiting a lamb project for the 2023 major shows, Mr. Witzel is hosting an interest meeting for students and their parent/guardian on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 6:00PM in AG117. 2022 AMP Awards Application
As we do at the end of each school year, the AMP recognizes student achievements from throughout the school year in many different areas. 

The 2022 AMP Awards Application is now available for students to apply to 38 different award categories for recognition. For a student to be considered for any of the award categories, they must check the award area that they are applying for and briefly explain why they should receive the award. Students may apply for multiple award categories, however, must submit a separate award application for each category.

Award winners will be recognized at the 2022 AMP Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

Summer School 2022
Students interested in attending summer school can register through Skyward Family Access beginning on April 25, 2022 through June 1, 2022. Summer school will be held at Roosevelt High School. 

The dates of Summer School are:
Session I: June 6 - June 23, 2022 (Monday - Thursday)
Session II: June 27 - July 15, 2022 (Monday - Thursday, Last Friday)

Safari Club International Scholarship

A scholarship opportunity being provided by the San Antonio Chapter of the Safari Club International, a non-profit serving South Texas for more than 25 years. The chapter's mission is to create opportunities for conservation of natural resources through sponsorship, education, and preservation of our hunting heritage. They accomplish this by providing youth hunts, sponsoring wounded warrior hunts, and providing educational support for the next generation of conservationists with a passion for wildlife management or veterinarian studies by giving scholarships.

The Chapter is offering five (5) $1,000 scholarships to deserving graduating seniors that are pursuing post-secondary studies in majors/careers associated with wildlife management and/or veterinary science. These scholarships have the possibility of being rewarded to a recipient on a multi-year basis.


To be considered for a scholarship, students need to write the chapter's Board of Directors describing who they are, what course work and activities they have been involved with while in high school, what their chosen post-secondary major/career is and how this plan of study might contribute to the chapter's mission (can be found at www.alamosci.org), and provide the name of the post-secondary institution that they have been accepted into and which semester they will begin.

Surita Wyatt Scholarship
Deadline: April 18, 2022
The NEISD CTE Business & Advisory Council will be awarding four scholarships in the amount of $500 to graduating NEISD seniors that have been active in taking CTE courses while in high school. In addition, one student will be awarded a $1000 scholarship and named the overall senior CTE student for NEISD.

​The criteria for selection include the following actions:
  1. Participation in Career and Technical (CTE) courses (all courses in AMP are CTE courses). 
  2. Demonstrate success in academic areas.
  3. Exhibits evidence of personal character and leadership.

Norman Vestal Memorial Rotary Scholarship  
Deadline: April 29, 2022
The Rotary Club of San Antonio will grant five (5) $500 scholarships to area graduating high school seniors from Bexar County who plan to pursue a career in Agrilife (to include Agribusiness).

Eligibility:
  1. Currently enrolled in a high school in Bexar County. 
  2. Classified as a Senior during the 2021-2022 School year.
  3. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  4. Cannot be the child or grandchild of a Rotarian.
  5. Must plan on attending college during the 2022-2023 academic year at an accredited college or university.
  6. Must be pursuing a degree in Agri-Life (to include Agribusiness)

Women of Welding Summer Camp
Texas State University in San Marcos is proud to host the Women of Welding (W0W) Summer Camp for high school girls interested in careers in the welding industry. The camp is a five-day (July 18-22, 2022) dive into several different welding processes and other emerging technologies used in the industry. The camp is being led by women including a professional welding instructor and a secondary welding instructor and we will have keynote speakers at dinner each night.

The WoW Summer Camp has a competitive application process and will be capped at 28 participants. The camp is fully funded by the USDA Women and Minorities in STEM grant. The grant will cover the hotel, meals, welding gear, and other perks! The students are responsible for their travel to and from San Marcos, TX.

Interested high school girls must apply by April 1, 2022. Our 28 participants will be announced at the Rising Star Welding Event at Texas State University on April 30th. Wow Summer Camp application is attached below this post.

If you are a current Sophomore or Junior AMP student and have requested Advanced Animal Science for next school year, please check your NEISD student email account for information regarding how to enroll in the Dual Credit opportunity that is offered with Advanced Animal Science. Students that qualify for the Dual Credit opportunity can earn 6 hours of college credit through Palo Alto College and also earn 1.15 ranking points by taking the exact same course as non-dual credit students.

Tractor Technician Team Earns Texas FFA Championship Title
The James Madison FFA Tractor Technician team competed on March 12th and 13th at the Texas FFA State Tractor Technician Career Development Event hosted by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and earned the State Championship title.

Team members included Gage White scoring 1st High Point Individual, Moses Greer scoring 3rd High Point Individual, and Logan Wright scoring 4th High Point Individual. Students were rewarded with over $2,000 worth of tools and equipment for their success.

This is the first time in the history of our program that this team has won this competition. The team was coached by Mr. Rode.

FFA Letter Jacket
The Spring 2022 fitting and ordering for a FFA Letter Jacket will be held on Tuesday, March 22nd from 3:00pm to 5:00pm in the AMP Commons. 


Letter jacket representatives will be fitting qualified students for jackets and taking orders on Tuesday, March 22nd. Payment in full must be made at the time of fitting and ordering.

Camp Bow Wow Employment Opportunity
The Camp Bow Wow locations in Live Oak and the San Antonio Airport are currently looking to hire students with the ability to work weekends, holidays, this upcoming summer, and possibly as work site for students in our Practicum of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources course.

Camp Bow Wow is looking for students that are dependable and punctual for reporting to work, have a good work ethic, enjoy working with puppies and dogs, looking to learn something new, willing to work with a team, and possibly help with customer/client relations.

Alamo Community Colleges Foundation Scholarships
Deadline: May 1, 2022

Graduating Seniors that are considering or planning enrollment at one of the Alamo Community Colleges for the 2022-2023 academic year, should complete Alamo Community Colleges online scholarship application as soon as possible.
There are a few significant changes to the application for this year:

  1. May 1, 2022 is the only deadline for scholarships and it applies to the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters.
  2. No essay is required!
  3. Transcripts are not required!
