Howdy AMP families and students, The following are important events and happenings for the week of March 1st. Upcoming Events
San Antonio Stock Show Successes The 2021 San Antonio Stock Show has come to a close and it will definitely will be one to remember because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the historic winter storm that struck San Antonio. Fortunately, the show did go on and we had several members of the James Madison FFA find success. We encourage you to check out our recent posts on the James Madison FFA Facebook Page to celebrate with us and congratulate our students on a job well done! FFA Letter Jacket The Spring 2021 fitting and ordering for a FFA Letter Jacket will be held on Monday, March 22nd from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in the AMP Commons. To purchase a FFA Letter Jacket, students must complete the FFA Letter Jacket application (attached to this post) and return the completed application to the AMP Administration office by Friday, March 19th before receiving a letter jacket ordering packet. Letter jacket representatives will be fitting qualified students for jackets and taking orders on Monday, March 22nd. Payment in full must be made at the time of fitting and ordering. Texas Brigades Summer Camps Texas Brigades summer camps offer hands-on activities and curriculum to immerse participants in sciences such as ecology, biology, botany, agronomy, and more. Participants are learning from field and collegiate professionals who offer insight on ag-related career opportunities and businesses, while learning how they can steward natural resources and advance natural resource conservation. Texas Brigades Summer Camps are available to within the 13-18 age range who show a passion for sciences, the outdoors, natural resources, wildlife, livestock, fishing, and even recreation. Applications made by the March 15th deadline are more likely to attend their preferred camp because they fill up fast. Potential applicants should go to the Texas Brigades website (https://www.texasbrigades.org/applications/) to apply or direct questions to [email protected]. Guidance and Counseling News Advanced Animal Science Dual Credit for 2021-2022 School Year If you are a Sophomore or Junior AMP student interested in taking Advanced Animal Science during the 2021-2022 school year, then you can earn 6 hours of college credit by taking Dual Credit. Students interested in taking the Advanced Animal Science Dual Credit will earn 1.15 ranking points by taking the exact same course as non-dual credit students. Interested students will need to complete the following steps to apply for dual credit.
Scholarship Opportunities San Antonio A&M Club Foundation Opportunity Scholarship Award Deadline: March 4, 2021 The 2021 San Antonio A&M Club Foundation Opportunity Award Scholarship Application is now available! The San Antonio A&M Club, through its Foundation, awards $12,000 academic scholarships to high school students from Bexar County who have been unconditionally accepted to Texas A&M University at either the College Station or Galveston Campus. Eligible students must reside in Bexar County or attend high school in Bexar County at the time of graduation. Information and scholarship applications can be found online at: www.aggiepark.com. San Antonio Education Partnership Scholarship Deadline: March 31, 2021 If you're staying local for college and attending one of the Alamo Colleges, UTSA, Texas A&M San Antonio, Incarnate Word, Our Lady of the Lake, St. Mary's, or Trinity, then please consider applying for the SAEP Scholarship! Scholarship awards range from $600-$1500. See the link above for additional details and to apply! Norman Vestal Memorial Rotary Scholarship Deadline: April 2, 2021 The Rotary Club of San Antonio will grant five (5) $500 scholarships to area graduating high school seniors from Bexar County who plan to pursue a career in Agrilife (to include Agribusiness and Ag Mechanics). Eligibility:
Alamo Colleges Foundation Scholarship Program Deadline: April 5, 2021 The Alamo College Foundation is currently accepting scholarship applications to the following colleges for academic year 2021-2022: San Antonio College, St. Philip's College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College, and Northeast Lakeview College. Attached is a flier with scholarship application information, as well as information about the San Antonio Livestock Exposition (S.A.L.E.) scholarship opportunity for students interested in the Agriculture Sciences Program at Palo Alto College. To be considered for the S.A.L.E. scholarship, students must major in the Agriculture Sciences Program at Palo Alto College. February Community Service Opportunity The James Madison FFA officers invite the AMP students to take part in this month's community service opportunity to benefit the North Central Baptist Hospital Pediatric Wing. We are collecting toys and games to donate to the hospital for use with children that are hospitalized. All items must be NEW and we are collecting until February 26th in the AMP Administration Office. See the attached flier for the list of needed items for donation. National FFA Week - February 22 - 26, 2021 Join the James Madison FFA officer team by celebrating the 2021 National FFA Week by participating in "FFA Dress Up Days"!

URGENT MESSAGE: North East ISD has been monitoring local weather reports carefully and has determined that in-person school will not take place on Monday, Feb. 15. Instead, NEISD will transition to virtual learning. Teachers will work remotely and students will work asynchronously. That way, we will not need to use an existing student/staff holiday to make up the day. Further updates will be communicated through our website at neisd.net and social media channels, as well as on local newscasts. The NEISD Magnet Common Application for the 2021-2022 school year is now available for interested 8th graders to apply for the Agriscience Magnet Program (AMP). AMP Junior (11th Grade) Conferences It’s time for MANDATORY Junior Conferences! Mrs. Guerrero, AMP Counselor, will begin meeting with each of you individually via Zoom for approximately 20 minutes to review your graduation plan, talk about course requests, and plan for your future. If you are an in-person student, you are welcomed to come to her AMP office during your scheduled Junior conference. Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy at Alamo Colleges The Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy at Alamo Colleges is now accepting applications for the Fall 2021 semester. Students in the academy are in a co-enrollment program that provides a pathway to students interested in pursuing an engineering degree at Texas A&M University. Students admitted to an Engineering Academy are Texas A&M engineering students co-enrolled at Texas A&M University in the College of Engineering and at a Northeast Lakeview College. Students are able to stay co-enrolled locally for a minimum of one year, maximum two years until they fully move to College Station to finish their Texas A&M Bachelors degree in the College of Engineering. The application closes June 30th and there is an early priority deadline of April 1st. So high school seniors still have time to apply!
