Howdy AMP families and students, We are now one full week into distance education as we continue to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus in our community. If you are not aware, NEISD announced this past week that all campuses will remain closed at a minimum through April 24th. The city of San Antonio and Bexar County have also put in place a Stay Home, Work Safe order which has made us adjust the hours that the James Madison HS campus is open. The new hours for the campus are:
If a student chose the paper packet option for distance education, the paper packets for week 1 should be returned this week and students will be receiving the paper packets for week 2 instruction. Return and distribution will be done at the following days and times:
Also, if a student chose the online distance education option and is in need of a laptop to complete their coursework, the Madison HS campus does have a limited number of laptops that are available to be checked out to students to use for distance education. Laptops are available to be checked out from the campus on Monday (8:00am to 1:00pm), Tuesday (1:00pm to 6:00pm), or by appointment only on Wednesday through Friday. Due to the campuses being closed at this time through April 24th, the AMP and James Madison HS will be having to cancel, postpone, or modify events and gatherings that were to be held over the coming weeks. Please make sure that you are also reading the JMHS Weekly email message the Mr. Zimmerman is sending out every Sunday so that you can stay informed about these changes in regards to Madison HS. Changes for the scheduled activities and events of the AMP will be communicated in the weekly AMP Happenings and our social media platforms. As a reminder, all staff are available by email to assist students and parents with any questions or concerns during this time. Our AMP teachers will also be available for virtual tutoring at least two hours each week to help students with comprehending any of the distance education assignments. Howdy AMP families and students, It is astonishing how fast the routines of our everyday lives can change by the very fluid situation we find ourselves in here in San Antonio and across the country. However, as Americans, we are very resilient people and that is evident in how quickly we have began adapting to this new reality. By now, I believe that you should know that NEISD will be providing continuation of instruction for all students through a distance education model using online instruction or paper packets being provided to students. School administration and teachers started this past Wednesday reaching out to students and families to determine which platform (online or paper) would work best for each student. We will be using this distance education model for at least the next two weeks (March 23rd through April 3rd) at which time the NEISD leadership will reassess the COVID-19 situation in our community and make a decision on returning to school. Over the next two weeks you should expect for students to receive 2-3 assignments per week from each of their teachers that should take approximately 20-30 minutes per assignment to complete. Teachers will be assessing students understanding of the assignments on a weekly basis using 3-5 questions in which students provide responses through the platform for distance education that they chose. If a student chose the online distance education option, students will be able to find assignments and resources posted to individual Google Classrooms for each of their courses by Monday, March 23rd and Monday, March 30th. Students should have already received a class code from each of their teachers so that they can join the appropriate Google Classroom for their courses. If a student chose the paper packet option for distance education, the paper packets will be available for pick up between 8:00am - 4:00pm in the Madison Library on Monday, March 23rd for week 1 and Monday, March 30th for week 2. All staff are available by email to assist students and parents with any questions or concerns during this time. Our AMP teachers will also be available for virtual tutoring at least two hours each week to help students with comprehending any of the distance education assignments.
