Got Talent? - James Madison FFA Talent Contest Do you have talent? Do you like to entertain audiences? If so, we have a contest for you! The James Madison FFA is having a talent contest on Monday, March 28th at 4:45PM in the AMP Arena and all James Madison FFA members are invited to come watch and cast your vote to select our 2022 James Madison FFA Talent Winner. 2022-2023 James Madison FFA Chapter Officer Application The James Madison FFA Chapter is looking for dedicated and hard-working students to serve as chapter officer for the 2022-2023 school year. Each year the chapter officer team plans and implements chapter events and encourages members to participate. In order to be considered for a chapter officer position, interested students and a parent/guardian must attend a MANDATORY meeting on Tuesday, April 5th at 6:00PM in the AG130. If a student and/or parent/guardian are unable to attend the mandatory meeting, they must contact Mr. Anderson ([email protected]) by Monday, April 4th to schedule a make-up session. FFA Chapter Degree Ceremony - April 7th AMP students receiving their Chapter FFA Degree will be recognized at a ceremony on Thursday, April 7th at 6:00PM in the AMP Commons prior to the FFA Booster Club General Meeting. Following the Booster Club meeting, there will be sweets for the students and their parents. April JM FFA Booster Club General Meeting - Thursday, April 7, 2022 The next monthly meeting of the FFA Booster Club will be Thursday, April 7th at 6:30pm in the AMP Commons. All parents/guardians of AMP students are encouraged to join us for the Booster Club meeting. Major agenda items for the April meeting will be the nomination of the 2022-2023 Executive Board for the FFA Booster Club and distribution of the 2022 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction checks. 2022 AMP Livestock Expo Species Breakout Sessions - Tuesday, April 19th The AMP Livestock Expo is a platform where AMP students can gain knowledge and experience in actual production agriculture through the raising and exhibiting of a livestock animal. The possibility of raising a livestock project (goats, lambs, rabbits, or swine) is a fantastic way to get hands on skills in agriculture and is one of many ways a student can meet the goal of having a Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) project in the AMP. The AMP staff will be sharing information about the opportunity to raise and exhibit a livestock animal at the 2022 AMP Livestock Expo (generally known as the JV livestock program) through individual breakout sessions for goats, lambs, rabbits, and swine from 7:00PM to 8:00PM on Tuesday, April 19th in the AMP Complex. Students and parents/guardians will be able to attend two breakout sessions of their choice that evening. We will post an informational presentation about the AMP Livestock Expo and all necessary documents on the AMP Livestock Expo website in the coming weeks (https://amplivestockexpo.weebly.com). Students and parents/guardians should view the informational presentation prior to attending the species breakout sessions on April 19th. 2023 Major Show Goat Projects If a student is interested in learning more about raising and exhibiting a goat project for the 2023 major shows, Mrs. Leita is hosting an interest meeting for students and their parent/guardian on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 6:00PM in AG120. Contact Mrs. Leita at [email protected] for more information. 2022 AMP Awards Application As we do at the end of each school year, the AMP recognizes student achievements from throughout the school year in many different areas. The 2022 AMP Awards Application is now available for students to apply to 38 different award categories for recognition. For a student to be considered for any of the award categories, they must check the award area that they are applying for and briefly explain why they should receive the award. Students may apply for multiple award categories, however, must submit a separate award application for each category. Award applications must be submitted online through the following link and are due by April 29, 2022: https://forms.gle/kxHJoY1yKqcXCYhB7. Award winners will be recognized at the 2022 AMP Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Women of Welding Summer Camp Texas State University in San Marcos is proud to host the Women of Welding (W0W) Summer Camp for high school girls interested in careers in the welding industry. The camp is a five-day (July 18-22, 2022) dive into several different welding processes and other emerging technologies used in the industry. The camp is being led by women including a professional welding instructor and a secondary welding instructor and we will have keynote speakers at dinner each night. The WoW Summer Camp has a competitive application process and will be capped at 28 participants. The camp is fully funded by the USDA Women and Minorities in STEM grant. The grant will cover the hotel, meals, welding gear, and other perks! The students are responsible for their travel to and from San Marcos, TX. Interested high school girls must apply by April 1, 2022. Our 28 participants will be announced at the Rising Star Welding Event at Texas State University on April 30th. Guidance and Counseling News Advanced Animal Science Dual Credit for 2022-2023 School Year If you are a current Sophomore or Junior AMP student and have requested Advanced Animal Science for next school year, please check your NEISD student email account for information regarding how to enroll in the Dual Credit opportunity that is offered with Advanced Animal Science. Students that qualify for the Dual Credit opportunity can earn 6 hours of college credit through Palo Alto College and also earn 1.15 ranking points by taking the exact same course as non-dual credit students. Attention Seniors The completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required by all graduating seniors as of the 2021-2022 school year. Extended After Hours Virtual Tutoring NEISD is providing extended after hours tutoring for high school students from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Monday through Thursday. Scholarship Opportunities Surita Wyatt Scholarship Deadline: April 18, 2022 The NEISD CTE Business & Advisory Council will be awarding four scholarships in the amount of $500 to graduating NEISD seniors that have been active in taking CTE courses while in high school. In addition, one student will be awarded a $1000 scholarship and named the overall senior CTE student for NEISD. The criteria for selection include the following actions:

Tractor Technician Team Earns Texas FFA Championship Title The James Madison FFA Tractor Technician team competed on March 12th and 13th at the Texas FFA State Tractor Technician Career Development Event hosted by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and earned the State Championship title. Team members included Gage White scoring 1st High Point Individual, Moses Greer scoring 3rd High Point Individual, and Logan Wright scoring 4th High Point Individual. Students were rewarded with over $2,000 worth of tools and equipment for their success. This is the first time in the history of our program that this team has won this competition. The team was coached by Mr. Rode. FFA Letter Jacket The Spring 2022 fitting and ordering for a FFA Letter Jacket will be held on Tuesday, March 22nd from 3:00pm to 5:00pm in the AMP Commons. Letter jacket representatives will be fitting qualified students for jackets and taking orders on Tuesday, March 22nd. Payment in full must be made at the time of fitting and ordering. The program allows students to live on a college campus and learn about agriculture from university professors, scientists, and administrative professionals who work for the U.S. Government in a variety of fields. They study the life cycles and habits of insects (entomologists); research micro-organisms, such as bacteria and viruses (biotechnologists); examine cells and tissues under a microscope to identify diseases (plant pathologists); work to conserve and manage wild animals and their habitats (wildlife biologists); carry out animal health programs (veterinarians); provide education on the humane care and treatment of animals (veterinarians and animal care inspectors); and manage the business aspects of protecting plants and animals (agribusiness). This 2- to 4-week summer outreach program for 2022 targets middle and high school students who are interested in learning more about plants, animals, and agribusiness. Students chosen to participate in AgDiscovery will gain experience through hands-on labs, workshops, and field trips. Students will also participate in character- and team-building activities and a variety of other events. There is no cost to attend the AgDiscovery 2022 summer program. Tuition, room and board, lab supplies, meals, and activity fees will be covered by APHIS.
