October Community Service Opportunity The James Madison FFA officers invite the AMP students to take part in this month's community service opportunity to benefit our community's First Responders. Students are encouraged to donate a case of bottled water that will be distributed to local agencies for emergency use. See the attached flier for details on how to join in on this great opportunity to support our First Responders. FFA Booster Club is Seeking Buckle Sponsorships The FFA Booster Club is in need of individual and business sponsorships for the custom trophy belt buckles that will be awarded this year at the 2021 North East Ag Fair scheduled to take place on January 8-9, 2021. The sponsorship cost is $200.00 per buckle and there are 6 remaining opportunities of buckles. The available buckles for sponsorship are:

Land Stewardship Ambassadors Program In February 2021, the Witte Museum and the East Foundation will be offering the Land Stewardship Ambassador program for 15 high school students in Bexar County. The principles of land stewardship can be applied in both urban and rural settings. Students from diverse backgrounds can learn from and inspire one another to think critically about how we care for the land. The goal of this program is to increase awareness of land stewardship principles, promote civic engagement in today’s youth and inspire students to obtain careers that support land stewardship. Students who successfully complete the 10-session program will earn a $400 stipend. National FFA SAE Grant Opportunity Do you need financial assistance to help start or expand your Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program? A limited number of grants of $1,000 each are available to current FFA members through the National FFA Organization. FFA membership must be current, applicants must be in grades 7-12 and must demonstrate financial need. The SAE Grant application is open now through Monday, November 16th, at 7:00 PM CDT. Guidance and Counseling News October is National Manufacturing Month and this month, Texas FAME has one remaining virtual opportunity for students to learn about manufacturing career pathways! Wednesday, 10/28/2020, 1pm - 2pm Women in Engineering Virtual Panel Hear from four female engineers from the San Antonio manufacturing community speak about their own experiences and give a perspective on what actions can be taken towards bridging the gender gap within the manufacturing field. Whether students are planning on attending a specialized training program or seeking a four-year degree, the National FFA Scholarship Program has opportunities for all. Scholarships support FFA high school seniors and collegiate members as well as non-FFA students. Just one application is required for multiple scholarship opportunities totaling close to $2 million dollars. Everything students need to successfully complete the application can be found on the scholarship website. This year, we are also including how-to videos to assist students in completing the application and advisors on validating the student’s application. It is imperative that students “white list” emails that will come from our scholarship partner ISTS. Here is a document to walk you through how to ensure you receive the communication around the scholarship program. The scholarship application closes on Jan. 14, 2021. Free Speech Essay Contest Deadline: December 31, 2020 Award: One $10,000 first prize, one $5,000 second prize, three $1,000 third place prizes and four $500 prizes will be awarded. Howdy AMP families and students, The following are important events and happenings for the week of October 19th. Upcoming Events
In-Person Learning for All Students Beginning on Monday, October 19th, NEISD will welcome back all students that have chosen in-person learning to all of its campuses. Parents/guardians still have the option for their students to continue in virtual learning with the opportunity to choose for a student to return to in-person learning every four weeks. The next opportunity for parents/guardians to notify Madison HS of your desire for your student to return to in-person learning is by November 12th (followed by December 18, 2020; February 3, 2021; March 5, 2021; April 16, 2021). As a reminder, students returning to in-person learning will be required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. The NEISD dress code and clear backpack requirement will be enforced. Also, we request that students bring technology with them if they have a portable device (laptop, Chromebook, iPad, etc.). We ask that parents/guardians check your students at home for symptoms of COVID-19 before having them arrive at school. Also, every week NEISD will update the number of COVID cases in the district on their website. You will be able to find this information at: https://www.neisd.net/criticalupdates. Volunteers Needed for October Ag Fair The AMP will be having the 2020 North East Ag Fair on Saturday, October 24th. To make this event as successful, the FFA Booster Club is in need of parent volunteers to monitor the entrances/exits to the AMP Arena, assist with taking livestock entries, and work the concession stand. AMP Students Named as Top 3 Finalists in the Nation The National FFA Organization announced that Samara Huezo, Jean Lamboy Medina, Ember Reyes, and Shepherd Smith were selected as top 3 finalists in their respective categories in the National FFA Agriscience Fair competition. Final results will be announced during the 93rd National Convention and Expo happening October 27th - 29th. Congratulations and best of luck! Madison FFA Members Compete in Area 7 FFA Fall CDEs Four James Madison FFA members competed at the Area 7 FFA Fall Career Development Events on Thursday, October 15th in Blanco, TX. Donations and Volunteers Needed for October Events The AMP has received permission to host the Fall Challenge Goat and Lamb Prospect Show on Saturday, October 17th and the 2020 North East Ag Fair on Saturday, October 24th. To make these two events as successful as possible, the FFA Booster Club is in need of the following:
Parent volunteers are needed for the following times at each event:
To volunteer for one of the above dates and time slots, please send an email to [email protected] and include your First and Last Name, date you wish to volunteer, and time slot. AMP Complex Speed Limit, Traffic Pattern, and Student Parking As Phase 3 begins, it can be expected that the volume of traffic on the AMP Complex will increase. All drivers (parents, guardians, students) are reminded that the speed limit on the AMP Complex is 10 MPH. Drivers should be attentive when driving in and around the livestock project centers for pedestrian traffic and should only park vehicles in appropriate parking areas. Also, please stay to the right of the circular roadway between the swine and lamb project centers when entering and exiting the livestock project centers. Lastly, student parking during the school year will be in the parking lot that is adjacent to the lamb project center. We will begin selling AMP Parking Permits beginning this week of school and the parking permit application is attached to this post or may be picked up in the AMP Administration Office. The following guidelines will be used to issue AMP Parking Permits:

Phase 3 Begins on Monday, October 5th NEISD is will be moving to Phase 3 of its school phase-in plan on October 5th allowing up to 15 students per classroom. Phase 3 will also begin the blended instruction model with students that are on campus receiving in-person instruction from their teachers and students remaining in distance learning receiving instruction virtually. Students that are on campus during the instructional day will be rotating to their assigned classes. AMP students that are attending Phase 3 instruction on campus will be allowed to enter the AMP building at 8:00 AM and may utilize the seating in the AMP Commons until the instructional day begins. The Texas Education Code requires that students in grades 9 - 12 must be in attendance of a course for a minimum of 90% of the time in which the course meets. The A / B Day schedule this year has courses meeting approximately 50 times a semester meaning a student is only allowed 5 absences per course to be within the 90% rule. For each absence after 5, students must recover 1 hour of seat time per absence (6 absences = 1 hour seat time required; 7 absences = 2 hours seat time required; 8 absences = 3 hours seat time required; etc.). Parents/guardians my view specific attendance details by course for their student through Skyward Family Access. This school year, students will have three options for recovering seat time due to excessive absences. Those options are:
