The 2020 AMP Awards Application is now available for students to apply to 37 different award categories for recognition. For a student to be considered for any of the award categories, they must check the award area that they are applying for and briefly explain why they should receive the award. Students may apply for multiple award categories, however, must submit a separate award application for each category. Award applications must be submitted online through the following link and are due by May 1, 2020: https://forms.gle/dSJM2xTMdoCUFjLs6 AMP End of the Year and Senior Tribute Slideshows A yearly tradition that AMP students look forward to are the video slideshows that are an important part of our AMP Awards Gala. Howdy AMP families and students, The following are important events and happenings for the week of April 20th. 2020-2021 James Madison FFA Chapter Officer Election Process The time has come to begin the selection process for the 2020 - 2021 James Madison FFA Chapter Officer Team. From today through April 26th, AMP students may view the speeches of this year's candidates to help determine who will serve as an officer in 2020 - 2021. Speeches can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/XdN-PzdLSZ4 Information about voting will be available in next Sunday's AMP Happenings. 2020 North East Ag Fair Livestock Show Informational Meeting The AMP staff had scheduled an informational meeting on Tuesday, April 21st to share with you about the voluntary opportunity to raise and exhibit a livestock animal at the 2020 North East Ag Fair. As you know, we are unable to hold this informational meeting through our traditional face-to-face means due to the closure of our school campuses. Therefore, we will be sharing this information through a virtual presentation that you can access on demand. We will post the presentation on our website (www.JamesMadisonFFA.com) by 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 21st and send an email communication with a direct link. The North East Ag Fair is an annual platform where AMP students showcase their skills and abilities to our school and community through a variety of activities. One of the most popular activities our students engage in for the North East Ag Fair is the exhibition of livestock to gain knowledge and experience in actual production agriculture. The possibility of raising a livestock project (i.e. - goats, rabbits, sheep, or swine) is a fantastic way to get hands on skills in agriculture and is one of many ways a student can meet the goal of having a Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) program in the AMP. Therefore, it is highly recommended any student interested in raising and exhibiting a livestock project for the 2020 North East Ag Fair watch the virtual presentation with their parent/guardian. Again, the presentation will be posted on our website by 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 21st. 2021 Major Show Lamb Projects If a student is interested in learning more about raising and exhibiting a lamb project for the 2021 major shows, please complete the following form by April 24th: https://forms.gle/52nhyFkvPu9deUvz7 Mr. Price will be providing information specific to raising and exhibiting lamb projects for the 2021 majors shows to those students that complete the form. 2021 Major Show Goat Projects If a student is interested in learning more about raising and exhibiting a goat project for the 2021 major shows, please complete the following form by May 1st: https://forms.gle/ZXwfTwgm5VYCG3tt7 Mrs. Leita will be providing information specific to raising and exhibiting goat projects for the 2021 major shows to those students that complete the form. As we are all aware NEISD is considering a "Virtual" option for our graduations. This may change our graduation ceremony but it does not have to eliminate speaking portions of the event. If you would like to be considered for the senior commencement speaker you will need to see the attached document and provide Mrs. Saenz with your speech by the deadline. We will conduct tryouts in a manner allowed by the current health and safety guidelines. If you have questions please reach out to Mrs. Saenz
Howdy AMP families and students,
As we embark on the third week of distance education, we now know that all campuses will remain closed at a minimum through May 4th. The city of San Antonio and Bexar County have also extended the Stay Home, Work Safe order through the end of April in order to continue efforts in slowing the spread of the coronavirus in our community. Because of this, NEISD is reducing the number of staff members required to report to campus and the hours in which campuses are open for the safety and protection of employees and our community members. The new hours are as follows: Week of April 6th Monday - 8:00am to 12:00 noon Tuesday - 8:00am to 12:00 noon Wednesday - 8:00am to 12:00 noon Thursday - 8:00am to 6:00pm (Packet Distribution and Return) Week of April 13th Tuesday - 8:00am to 12:00 noon Thursday - 8:00am to 12:00 noon Week of April 20th Tuesday - 8:00am to 12:00 noon Thursday - 8:00am to 12:00 noon Week of April 27th Monday - 8:00am to 12:00 noon Tuesday - 8:00am to 12:00 noon Wednesday - 8:00am to 12:00 noon Friday - 8:00am to 6:00pm (Packet Distribution and Return) This change will also affect the distribution and return of paper packets for those students that have chosen that option for distance education. Beginning with this week, we will be providing 3 weeks worth of work for students using paper packets. Paper packet distribution for weeks 3, 4, and 5 and the return of week 2 work will happen on Thursday, April 9th from 8:00am to 6:00pm. We encourage students using the paper packet option to consider returning their work by taking a picture of the completed assignment and emailing the photo to the appropriate teacher. This will allow teachers to give feedback in a timely manner and will eliminate the need for collection of the paper packets that require additional sanitation and handling by school staff. However, if this is not an option, paper packets for weeks 3, 4, and 5 can be returned on May 1st. As a reminder, all staff are available by email to assist students and parents with any questions or concerns during this time. Our AMP teachers will also be available for virtual tutoring at least two hours each week to help students with comprehending any of the distance education assignments. Email contact information is as follows:
Mrs. Guerrero, AMP Counselor, is also available to assist students with any counseling needs they may have during this time. She can help students with course changes for 2020-2021 school year, forms and letters needed for scholarship applications, Verification of Enrollment forms (driver license), letters of verification, Dual Credit questions or information, etc. She is also available to provide counseling to students that may be having a challenging time through this transition to distance education. Please email Mrs. Guerrero at [email protected] for assistance or to set up a virtual appointment. 2020-2021 James Madison FFA Chapter Officer Application Applications are now available for students interested in applying to become a James Madison FFA Chapter Officer for the 2020-2021 school year.
