Howdy AMP families and students, It is astonishing how fast the routines of our everyday lives can change by the very fluid situation we find ourselves in here in San Antonio and across the country. However, as Americans, we are very resilient people and that is evident in how quickly we have began adapting to this new reality. By now, I believe that you should know that NEISD will be providing continuation of instruction for all students through a distance education model using online instruction or paper packets being provided to students. School administration and teachers started this past Wednesday reaching out to students and families to determine which platform (online or paper) would work best for each student. We will be using this distance education model for at least the next two weeks (March 23rd through April 3rd) at which time the NEISD leadership will reassess the COVID-19 situation in our community and make a decision on returning to school. Over the next two weeks you should expect for students to receive 2-3 assignments per week from each of their teachers that should take approximately 20-30 minutes per assignment to complete. Teachers will be assessing students understanding of the assignments on a weekly basis using 3-5 questions in which students provide responses through the platform for distance education that they chose. If a student chose the online distance education option, students will be able to find assignments and resources posted to individual Google Classrooms for each of their courses by Monday, March 23rd and Monday, March 30th. Students should have already received a class code from each of their teachers so that they can join the appropriate Google Classroom for their courses. If a student chose the paper packet option for distance education, the paper packets will be available for pick up between 8:00am - 4:00pm in the Madison Library on Monday, March 23rd for week 1 and Monday, March 30th for week 2. All staff are available by email to assist students and parents with any questions or concerns during this time. Our AMP teachers will also be available for virtual tutoring at least two hours each week to help students with comprehending any of the distance education assignments. Email contact information is as follows:
Mrs. Guerrero, AMP Counselor, is also available to assist students with any counseling needs they may have during this time. She can help students with course changes for 2020-2021 school year, forms and letters needed for scholarship applications, Verification of Enrollment forms (driver license), letters of verification, Dual Credit questions or information, etc. She is also available to provide counseling to students that may be having a challenging time through this transition to distance education. Please email Mrs. Guerrero at [email protected] for assistance or to set up a virtual appointment. The Madison High School Counseling Department has also set up a Counseling Hotline that will be available beginning March 23rd. Students can call the hotline number, (210) 356-1619, anytime between 8:00am to 4:00pm and speak to a counselor that is on duty. 2020-2021 James Madison FFA Chapter Officer Application Applications are now available for students interested in applying to become a James Madison FFA Chapter Officer for the 2020-2021 school year.
