The time has come for the most anticipated First Day of School in modern history. The year 2020 will forever be etched in our memories for many reasons. Even though starting school virtually will be a different experience, we are looking forward to this school year nonetheless. The following are important events and happenings for the week of August 17th. First day of Classes - Monday, August 17th The first day of instruction for the 2020-2021 school year will begin on Monday, August 17th. All classes will be held online - no in-person instruction - for at least the first three weeks of school. Students will need to be able to access the following in order to join their classes online:
For this school year, students will attend periods 1st - 4th on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (also known as "A" Day) and periods 5th - 7th on Tuesday and Thursday ("B" Day). Students will need to log-in to the appropriate Zoom meeting with their teacher based on the day and period. Here are the steps for accessing virtual instruction:
The following is a quick video by Principal Wernli walking you through the process: https://youtu.be/aPdCRx5t18E Attached to this post is the JMHS First Day of School Flier with class meeting times and instructions for accessing the online instruction. NEISD has also provided a great video about getting ready for virtual learning at the high school level. You can access the video online by clicking the following preferred language version: ENGLISH / SPANISH Contact Information for AMP Staff The AMP faculty have sent emails to all registered students in their classes for the upcoming school year with information about how to access their courses on Monday, August 17th. Students should check their NEISD student email accounts for communication from their teachers. Students and parents/guardians can also check out the following webpage on the AMP website to find the contact information for all members of the AMP staff: https://agrisciencemagnetprogram.weebly.com/amp-staff.html 2020-2021 James Madison FFA Dues One of the expectations for every AMP student is to be an active participant in the AMP. Active participation is achieved by becoming a member of the James Madison FFA (the student leadership organization for AMP students) and participating in any of the literally 100+ FFA activities that will be offered this school year. FFA dues are $20.00 for the entire school year. Because we are in virtual instruction for the beginning of the school year, we will only be utilizing the NEISD School Cash Online system for payment of FFA dues. If you have not done so, parents/guardians will need to register with NEISD School Cash Online to pay this fee. You can expect the $20.00 FFA membership fee to be posted to student accounts on August 24, 2020. With membership in the FFA, AMP students will have access to outstanding leadership and career development opportunities, supervised agricultural experiences, degrees, awards, and scholarships. FFA members will also receive a James Madison FFA commemorative t-shirt which will be available the first of October. (AMP students that have already made a payment of FFA dues prior to August 24, 2020 will not see a FFA membership fee posted to their student account.) James Madison FFA Booster Club The James Madison FFA Booster Club is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a membership of parents/guardians whose student(s) are actively attending the NEISD Agriscience Magnet Program (AMP). Membership for families is FREE. The FFA Booster Club exists to organize and conduct fundraising activities to provide financial support to all students of the AMP in order to enhance the educational and agricultural experiences of the students. Parents/guardians can support the James Madison FFA Booster Club by making the AMP a family experience. This can be done through a variety of means such as volunteering of your time and talents, introducing the FFA Booster Club to corporate sponsors, or financially supporting the FFA Booster Club with donations or purchasing merchandise. All parents/guardians are highly encouraged to sign up for the FFA Booster Club email distribution list by clicking HERE. You can also sign up for text message notifications by texting @JMFF to 81010. The FFA Booster Club will be scheduling a virtual meeting this month to conduct the election of the 2020-2021 FFA Booster Club Executive Board. Please be looking for an email soon with this information. (Please note, the James Madison FFA Booster Club does NOT share contact information and will communicate with its members only in regards to matters pertaining to the James Madison FFA Booster Club, the James Madison FFA Chapter, and the Agriscience Magnet Program.)
