Howdy AMP families and students, The following are important events and happenings for the week of August 31st. Upcoming September Events
NEISD is asking that parents/guardians please check and make any necessary updates to their contact information in Skyward. Correct contact information allows the district and campuses to broadcast important messages, updates and surveys to our parents/guardians. Instructions on how to check and/or change contact information can be found at: www.neisd.net/skyward-help. 2020-2021 James Madison FFA Dues A reminder that the $20.00 FFA membership fee for the 2020-2021 school year was posted to student accounts on August 24, 2020 via the NEISD School Cash Online app. If you have not done so, parents/guardians will need to register with NEISD School Cash Online to pay this fee. AMP students that have already made a payment of FFA dues prior to August 24, 2020 will not see a FFA membership fee posted to their student account. With membership in the FFA, AMP students will have access to outstanding leadership and career development opportunities, supervised agricultural experiences, degrees, awards, and scholarships. FFA members will also receive a James Madison FFA commemorative t-shirt which will be available the first of October. FFA T-Shirt Sponsorship The James Madison FFA is looking for t-shirt sponsors for our annual "chapter shirt". Our chapter shirts help to unite our members and build community, camaraderie, and pride amongst our members no matter the level of their involvement. Sponsoring this year's chapter shirt will get your business or family logo on the back of nearly 600 shirts worn by James Madison FFA members. For more information about this opportunity, please download the sponsorship information form attached to this post. James Madison FFA Booster Club The James Madison FFA Booster Club held its first general meeting on Tuesday, August 25th. If you were unable to attend the meeting or would like to review the meeting, the recording of the meeting and meeting resources have been uploaded to the AMP website at https://agrisciencemagnetprogram.weebly.com/minutes---general-meetings.html. The item of business that was transacted at the meeting was the election of the 2020-2021 FFA Booster Club Executive Board. The new board members are as follows: President - Amy Biggs Vice President - Cori Smith Secretary - Patty Garza Treasurer - Tracy Ballard Please mark your calendar for the next virtual general meeting of the FFA Booster Club on Tuesday, September 8th @ 6:30pm. Parents/guardians will receive an email prior to September 8th with login information to attend the virtual meeting. All parents/guardians are highly encouraged to sign up for the FFA Booster Club email distribution list by clicking HERE. You can also sign up for text message notifications by texting @JMFF to 81010. Technology Troubleshooting Resource NEISD has created a new Parent/Guardian Technology Troubleshooting Reference Guide and a website for use in helping families know the best course of action to take for the fastest resolution to some common issues. Far too often, parents/guardians are told to “Call the Help Desk” when their issue may be best resolved by someone right on the campus or simply by knowing where they can go to solve the matter on their own. The reference guide is attached to this post in both English and Spanish and the information can also be accessed online at: https://www.neisd.net/referenceguide. Important Virtual Learning Reminders

Howdy AMP families and students, The first week of the 2020-2021 school year is now behind us and we will soon be in a routine with the virtual learning mode of instruction. The following are important events and happenings for the week of August 24th. NEISD School Phase-In Plan NEISD shared information with parents/guardians on Friday, August 14th about a new phase-in approach approved by the NEISD Board of Trustees to begin bringing students back to campus on or after September 8, 2020. If you have not seen the Phase-In Plan, you can read more about it on the NEISD website by clicking HERE. Parents/guardians can also read more about the district's Phase-In Plan in this week's edition of Mr. Wernli's Madison Minutes. Deadlines to Change to In-Person Learning NEISD sent an email communication to families on Thursday, August 20th providing deadlines for those families that may wish to change from virtual to in-person learning for their student(s). Parents/guardians will be able to do so by notifying the campus that they wish to send their student(s) to school. The deadlines to notify your student’s school are as follows:
Should a seat be available for your student, instruction would begin within 48 hours after the above deadlines. Because seating may be limited, there is not a guarantee your student will be able to attend in-person instruction on the date you select. There are no deadlines for students who change from in person to virtual instruction. This change can occur at any time throughout the year within 48 hours of notification as long as virtual instruction is occurring. Please note that there may be a teacher change for students once they begin their new instructional setting. NEISD School Calendar Date Change The NEISD Board of Trustees made a change to the 2020-2021 traditional school calendar in response to the cancellation of Fiesta 2020 this November by the city of San Antonio. The previously adopted school calendar had a school holiday on Friday, November 13th for the Battle of Flowers of Parade. Due to the cancellation of Fiesta, the Board of Trustees moved the school holiday to Tuesday, November 3rd for "Election Day". 2020-2021 James Madison FFA Dues One of the expectations for every AMP student is to be an active participant in the AMP. Active participation is achieved by becoming a member of the James Madison FFA (the student leadership organization for AMP students) and participating in any of the literally 100+ FFA activities that will be offered this school year. FFA dues are $20.00 for the entire school year. Because we are in virtual instruction for the beginning of the school year, we will only be utilizing the NEISD School Cash Online system for payment of FFA dues. If you have not done so, parents/guardians will need to register with NEISD School Cash Online to pay this fee. Please find attached to this post instructions to help you set up an account. The $20.00 FFA membership fee to be posted to student accounts on August 24, 2020. With membership in the FFA, AMP students will have access to outstanding leadership and career development opportunities, supervised agricultural experiences, degrees, awards, and scholarships. Howdy AMP families and students, The time has come for the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. While we are beginning the year virtually without any in-person instruction, we are still looking forward to an exciting year as we invite the class of 2024 to join the ranks of AMP students and celebrate the soon-to-be graduation of the class of 2021! This is the first edition of the AMP Happenings for the 2020-2021 school year. The AMP Happenings will be a weekly message full of important information for AMP families so that they can keep in the loop of the many events and happenings that occur in the AMP. As I am sure you were also hoping, we were anticipating starting this school year in the same manner as the previous years. However, COVID-19 is still a reality within our community and we are faced with providing education and opportunities for our students in a virtual format. I want our AMP students and families to know that we are committed to providing a quality educational experience regardless of the modality of instruction. And while many of the things we have traditionally come to know and do within the AMP and at Madison HS will likely look different this year, we are excited about the opportunity to find new ways to bring experiences to our AMP students, families, and community. Patience is a Virtue That is likely a saying that most all of us have heard and may have even spoken before. According to the dictionary, patience is the ability to endure difficult circumstances such as perseverance in the face of delay; tolerance of provocation without responding in annoyance/anger; or forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. It goes without saying, patience will be a critical skill needed as we navigate these unprecedented times. The following are important events and happenings for the week of August 10th. In-Person or Virtual Instruction NEISD has sent out a final survey by email to the primary parent/guardian of our AMP students for families to choose which method of instruction they prefer for the 2020-2021 school year. If you received the survey and have not completed it, we ask that you do so in order for the school and staff to prepare for the needs of our students. If you did not receive a survey, please call Madison HS at (210) 356-1400 so that we can record your choice. The first day of classes will be on Monday, August 17th and all classes will be held virtually (distance learning) through at least Friday, September 4th. In-person instruction may begin on Tuesday, September 8th if NEISD deems it is safe to do so. Required In-Person Attendance for Specific AMP Courses The Texas Education Agency has recommended the following courses within the Agriscience Magnet Program (AMP) curriculum require some in-person classroom instruction in order for students to show mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for those courses: Floral Design, Advanced Floral Design, Food Safety and Technology, Food Processing, Agricultural Mechanics and Metal Technologies, Agricultural Equipment Design and Fabrication, Agricultural Structural Design and Fabrication, and Agricultural Power Systems. Parents/guardians received an email last week from Mr. Stewart if their student had requested any of the above courses for this school year. This email was to serve as a notice of the in-person attendance requirement even if the family chooses virtual only instruction for their student. Parents/guardians should submit their response to this requirement through the link that was provided in the email communication. Technology Distribution for Virtual Instruction Madison HS will be distributing technology this week for students needing a device for virtual instruction. The distribution dates and times are as follows:
