Howdy AMP families and students, The following are important events and happenings for the week of September 28th. Upcoming Events
Phase 3 is Coming - NEISD School Phase-In Plan NEISD is anticipating to move to Phase 3 of its school phase-in plan the week of October 5th allowing up to 15 students per classroom. Phase 3 will also begin the blended instruction model with students that are on campus receiving in-person instruction from their teachers and students remaining in distance learning receiving instruction virtually. Students that are on campus during the instructional day will be rotating to their assigned classes. Parents/guardians, if your student has been struggling with attendance to online classes and is not being successful with grades in their courses, we strongly recommend that you consider having your student return to in-person instruction during Phase 3. To have your student considered for return during Phase 3, please send an email to Mrs. Guerrero ([email protected]) or Mr. Stewart ([email protected]) with your student's name, grade level, and NEISD ID number. 2020-2021 James Madison FFA Membership Fee - 60% Paid! A reminder that the $20.00 FFA membership fee for the 2020-2021 school year was posted to student accounts on August 24, 2020 via the NEISD School Cash Online app. If you have not done so, parents/guardians will need to register with NEISD School Cash Online to pay this fee. AMP students that have already made a payment of FFA membership fees prior to August 24, 2020 will not see a FFA membership fee posted to their student account. As of last week, we have reached 60% towards our goal of having 100% of the AMP student body pay their membership fee! REMINDER - every student that pays their FFA membership fee will receive a FFA Chapter T-shirt. September Community Service Opportunity The James Madison FFA officers invite the AMP students to take part in this month's community service opportunity called "Make a Senior's Day!" Students are encouraged to send a greeting card to local nursing home residents with an encouraging message. See the attached flier for details on how to join in on this great opportunity to lift up people in our community. Guidance and Counseling News Upcoming Virtual College Visits Go to Mrs. Myers' Google Classroom (https://classroom.google.com/c/MTIyNjgyOTEyNTU3?cjc=abdalrd) 30 minutes before the virtual college visit to view the zoom link. Madison HS will have a Texas A&M admissions counselor virtually on the first Monday of every month at 3:30 pm.
Seniors - FREE SAT Test on October 14th NEISD is offering Seniors the opportunity to take the SAT test for FREE on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. The test will be administered at James Madison HS during the school day. All AMP Seniors are encouraged to take advantage of this free opportunity as many scholarships still require SAT scores as a requirement for application. The deadline to sign up for this FREE opportunity is Wednesday, September 30th. Click HERE to sign up. Phase 2- NEISD School Phase-In Plan NEISD will be moving to Phase 2 of its school phase-in plan this week allowing up to 10 students per classroom. Students will still be continuing to learn virtually while on campus with the exception of a few elective courses that students will attend in-person. As we are re-opening the campus to students, we do have some reminders to share with those students that will be on campus during Phase 2:
2020-2021 James Madison FFA Membership Fee - 55% Paid! A reminder that the $20.00 FFA membership fee for the 2020-2021 school year was posted to student accounts on August 24, 2020 via the NEISD School Cash Online app. If you have not done so, parents/guardians will need to register with NEISD School Cash Online to pay this fee. AMP students that have already made a payment of FFA membership fees prior to August 24, 2020 will not see a FFA membership fee posted to their student account. As of last week, we have reached 55% of our AMP student body that has paid their membership fee! That is a great start on our way to reaching 100%. Phase 1 - NEISD School Phase-In Plan NEISD will be continuing the second week of Phase 1 of its school phase-in plan this week. Phase 2 of the plan is scheduled to begin the week of September 21st. As we are re-opening the campus to students, we do have some updates and reminders to share with those students that are on campus during Phase 1:

AMP Seniors - Final Official 6th Semester Rank Now Available AMP Seniors can now access their Final Official 6th Semester Rank on their high school transcript. Transcripts can be viewed in Skyward Family Access under the Portfolio tile. Guidance and Counseling News CCMR Specialist Madison HS has a new College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) Specialist and her name is Mrs. Myers. Mrs. Myers can help students reach their post-secondary goals whether that be attending college, technical school, enlisting in the military, or going into the workforce. She has a google classroom account that has great information of upcoming virtual college visits and SAT/ ACT testing information. Scholarship Opportunities Texas Hill Country Wineries (THCW) Scholarship Approximately 6 years ago, THCW noticed a need for more support introducing and educating our local communities about the Texas wine industry and encouraging new individuals to get involved. The Texas Hill Country Wine Industry Scholarship fund was created in 2016 in hopes to give High School and College students the opportunity to receive the education needed to join the Texas wine industry. In our first year, $5,000.00 was awarded to recipients studying viticulture, enology and WSET certification. 2017 gave us the opportunity to award $11,000.00 to 12 Texas students, 2018 gave us the opportunity to award another $10,000.00 to 9 Texas students and 2019 gave us the opportunity to award another $12,500 to 9 Texas students enrolled at Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University and Texas State University. Make a Donation through the Big Give SA The annual Big Give SA online fundraising campaign is taking place on Thursday, September 10th. The AMP is a part of this year's campaign efforts in which you can make a charitable donation of $25, $50, $100, or any amount towards our goal of $5,000. Click HERE to donate now! Seven James Madison FFA members were named top in the nation in their respective areas and will compete for a national championship. The students are:
Final results will be announced at 93rd National Convention and Expo in October. Congratulations and best of luck! James Madison FFA Chapter Meeting - September 8th All AMP students are invited to attend the first chapter meeting of the James Madison FFA this Tuesday, September 8th at 4:00pm. The FFA Chapter officers have a great meeting planned are excited to have all AMP students join them for this virtual meeting. There will also be a "Meet and Greet" time with the AMP faculty and information shared about how students can participate on the Leadership Development Events this Fall semester. Information about the Zoom Chapter Meeting can be found in the Google Classrooms of the AMP courses that students are enrolled in or by contacting their AMP teacher. JM FFA Booster Club General Meeting - September 8th The September 2020 of the James Madison FFA Booster Club will be held virtually on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 6:30pm via Zoom. All parents and guardians of a student currently enrolled in the AMP are highly encouraged to attend the meeting. The major item of business that will be conducted at this month's meeting is the adoption of the 2020-2021 James Madison FFA Booster Club budget and presentation of this year's program of activities. AMP families should check their email for more details and information on how to access the Zoom meeting or click HERE. Phase 1 of Return to School Plan Begins on September 8th The Phase 1 return of students to campus will begin on Tuesday, September 8th. The parents/guardians of students that have been granted a seat during Phase 1 have been notified and should be the ONLY students to report to school during Phase 1. The following information should be helpful in preparing students to return for Phase 1:
First 3-Week Progress Report Available September 9th Parents/guardians and students will have access to the first 3-week progress report on SKYWARD Family Access on September 9th. Please email the student's teachers if you have any questions. Please remember that students are receiving actual numerical grades and that teachers are following NEISD Grading policies for virtual and in-person learning. Currently, there are a few students NOT turning work in or they are turning work in late. Missing and late work are subject to grading penalties. If a student is trying to submit work online and is having difficulties, staff will work with them to troubleshoot the issue and get them back on track. Students should email their teacher as soon as possible if they are having technical difficulties, as no communication might appear as if they are not taking responsibility for their work.
