The next monthly meeting of the FFA Booster Club will be Tuesday, February 2nd at 6:30pm via Zoom. All parents/guardians of AMP students are encouraged to join us online for the Booster Club meeting. Deadline - Thank You Letters for North East Ag Fair Premium Auction All students that participated in the Premium Auction should have received the list of donors for their projects and information on writing and turning in Thank You letters to the AMP Administration Office by Friday, February 5, 2021. NEISD Magnet Common Application Open for 2021-2022 The NEISD Magnet Common Application for the 2021-2022 school year is now available for interested 8th graders to apply for the Agriscience Magnet Program (AMP). Guidance and Counseling News 2021-2022 Course Selections We are beginning the process of course selection for the 2021-2022 school year. AMP Junior (11th Grade) Conferences It’s time for MANDATORY Junior Conferences! Mrs. Guerrero, AMP Counselor, will begin meeting with each of you individually via Zoom for approximately 20 minutes to review your graduation plan, talk about course requests, and plan for your future. If you are an in-person student, you are welcomed to come to her AMP office during your scheduled Junior conference. See the attached scholarship application for more information. MLK Scholarship Deadline: February 26, 2021 The 2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship application is now available! This scholarship helps to fund a portion of the college tuition of several deserving students, regardless of race or ethnicity. This scholarship can be applied to any 2 or 4-year institution as well as technical/trade schools. To be eligible students must: · Be a graduating senior from a school in Bexar County · Be a Bexar County resident for one year and a U.S. Citizen · Have a minimum, cumulative GPA of 2.5 or equivalent (80 or higher) Students may access and complete the application at https://www.sanantonio.gov/MLK/MLKScholarship. The San Antonio A&M Club, through its Foundation, awards $12,000 academic scholarships to high school students from Bexar County who have been unconditionally accepted to Texas A&M University at either the College Station or Galveston Campus. Huge Thanks for Your Support of the 2021 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction The 2021 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction was held on January 15-18, 2021 as a fundraiser to reward students that exhibited in the Ag Fair for their time, effort, and finances that they have invested into their agricultural projects. We are pleased to announce that our inaugural Premium Auction netted more than $76,000 and monies are continuing to come in for our James Madison FFA members. All students that participated in the Premium Auction should have received the list of donors for their projects and information on writing and turning in Thank You letters to the AMP Administration Office by Friday, February 5, 2021. Donors that need to pay the balance on their invoices can do so by one of the following ways:
NEISD Magnet Common Application Open for 2021-2022 The NEISD Magnet Common Application for the 2021-2022 school year is now available for interested 8th graders to apply for the Agriscience Magnet Program (AMP). Scholarship Opportunities USDA/1890 National Scholars Program Deadline: January 31, 2021 Prairie View A&M University is in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to encourage bright young people to study agriculture, food, natural resource sciences or related disciplines. USDA recently announced that applications are now being accepted for the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program for the 2021/2022 school year. Aspiring high school seniors are encouraged to apply before the January 31, 2021 deadline. USDA/1890 National Scholars are selected by participating USDA agencies based on recommendations of participating 1890 Land-Grant Universities. USDA/1890 scholarship recipients receive full tuition, fees, books, summer employment and employee benefits for each of the four years they pursue a bachelor’s degree. The partnering institutions provide room and board. Recipients are required to work one year (with pay) at USDA for each year they receive the scholarship. 2021 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction - January 15-18, 2021 The 2021 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction is a virtual event hosted online by StockShowAuctions.com on Friday, January 15 – Monday, January 18, 2021. This is our inaugural year to host an online auction to directly benefit the students that participated in the 2021 North East Ag Fair held January 8-9, 2021. The auction format that is being utilized is a Premium Auction which acts as a fundraiser for the student exhibitors. Bidders will not be purchasing the rights of lease or ownership to the project being offered in the Premium Auction, however, the bidder will simply be making a financial donation to student exhibitors by placing an "Add On" bid to the project being offered. We hope you will spread the word and consider supporting the 2021 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction to reward our students for their time, effort, and finances that they have invested into these agricultural projects. The following program updates come from Texas FAME: Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program Just a quick reminder that applications for our two year AMT program will be accepted until April 30th at 5pm, however we encourage early submission. Application checklists for both the Apply Texas application and the Texas FAME application can be found on the Texas FAME website - https://www.txfame.com/advanced-manufacturing-technology/ Fame Accelerated Skills Training (FAST) program Our newest FAME program - our short-term, nine week accelerated program FAST will have several cohorts this year so the application period will be recurring. Blossom PTSA Scholarship Deadline: February 5, 2021 The purpose of this scholarship is to give financial assistance, for up to eight semesters of college study, to students who plan to enter the field of education. Student must be logged in to NEISD account to apply. Eligibility: 1. The recipient must be a graduate of a high school in the North East Independent School District in the current graduating class and plan to enter the field of education. 2. The recipient must have a satisfactory scholastic record and be of good moral character. 3. The recipient must submit an application and be interviewed by the local high school interview committee. 4. The recipient must be a current member of the Madison HS PTA/PTSA. Value: 1. The value of the scholarship shall be established by the Scholarship Committee. Payments will be scheduled by the Committee. Continuance of the scholarship is contingent upon meeting the criteria established in the contract. 2. The value of the scholarship is $3,400 to be paid in increments of $425 per semester for 8 semesters within a 5 year period. Sports in Action Scholarship Deadline: February 12, 2021 H-E-B will award each selected student with a $2,000 scholarship toward their college/university of choice. Requirements: You must be a current Texas high school senior graduating in 2021 with a minimum 3.3 GPA, have participated in a UIL competition as a high school student and have been active in community service programs or events. It is imperative that students “white list” emails that will come from our scholarship partner ISTS. Now that 2021 has arrived and the second semester of the school year is underway, the events and happenings within the AMP will be plenty and the following are for the week of January 4th. Classes for the second semester will resume on Monday, January 4, 2021. Upcoming Events
FFA Career Development Events Informational Session - January 5th With the arrival of the Spring semester, a major focus within the AMP will be on preparing students to compete in Career Development Events (CDEs). CDEs build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage students to put their knowledge into practice. These events are designed to help a student prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student's technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter. Many CDEs are qualifying events for the National FFA CDE competition and/or offer scholarship opportunities. All AMP students are invited to attend a "come and go" CDE Informational Session from 4:00PM to 6:00PM on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 in the AMP Commons. At the session, AMP teachers will have informational tables for the various CDEs being offered this Spring semester so students can see first hand what each CDE has to offer. Guidance and Counseling News First Semester Report Cards Report cards for the 1st semester will be available to students through Skyward Family Access on Friday, January 8th. The grade a student receives in a course for the semester is what determines if a student receives credit in the course for graduation requirements (70 or higher grade results in credit being awarded). SAT School Day for Juniors ONLY The SAT School Day for Juniors ONLY will be held on campus March 24, 2021. The SAT School Day is free of charge but students must come to campus if they want to test. Registration is required to take the exam. The link to register is open until January 8th at 4:00 pm. No late registrations will be accepted.
