Howdy AMP families and students,

The following are important events and happenings for the week of January 25th.

  • Monday, January 25, 2021 - AMP In-Person Open House for incoming 8th Grade students from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM
  • Monday, January 25 - Friday, February 19, 2021 - 2021-2022 School Year Course Selection window is open
  • Tuesday, January 26, 2021 - PSAT School Day for 9th and 10th Grade
  • Tuesday, February 2, 2021 - James Madison FFA Booster Club General Meeting at 6:30PM via Zoom

Huge Thanks for Your Support of the 2021 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction
The 2021 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction was held on January 15-18, 2021 as a fundraiser to reward students that exhibited in the Ag Fair for their time, effort, and finances that they have invested into their agricultural projects.

We are pleased to announce that our inaugural Premium Auction netted more than $76,000 and monies are continuing to come in for our James Madison FFA members.

All students that participated in the Premium Auction should have received the list of donors for their projects and information on writing and turning in Thank You letters to the AMP Administration Office by Friday, February 5, 2021.

Donors that need to pay the balance on their invoices can do so by one of the following ways:
  1. Make payment by mailing a check payable to: James Madison FFA Booster Club, 14080 Nacogdoches Rd., Box #86, San Antonio, TX 78247-1944 (please deduct "Credit Electronic Processing Fee" if paying by check)
  2. Make payment online by going to paypal.me/MadisonFFABooster (please include "Credit Electronic Processing Fee" if paying online)

NEISD Magnet Common Application Open for 2021-2022
The NEISD Magnet Common Application for the 2021-2022 school year is now available for interested 8th graders to apply for the Agriscience Magnet Program (AMP). Applications may be submitted until February 12, 2021. Go to https://tinyurl.com/AMPenrollmentprocess for more information. 

The AMP has also made available a virtual information session on the 
Agriscience Magnet Program YouTube Channel.

January Community Service Opportunity
The James Madison FFA officers invite the AMP students to take part in this month's community service opportunity to benefit our local food pantries. We are collecting some of the most needed food pantry items until January 29th in the AMP Administration Office. See the attached flier for the list of needed items for donation.

Guidance and Counseling News
We are beginning the process of course selection for the 2021-2022 school year.  Students will be able to enter courses into Skyward from Monday, January 25th through Friday, February 19th.  Please use the attached materials to this post to help with planning for the 2021-2022 school year.  Click HERE to access the following items:

Scholarship Opportunities
​​USDA/1890 National Scholars Program
Deadline: January 31, 2021

Prairie View A&M University is in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to encourage bright young people to study agriculture, food, natural resource sciences or related disciplines. USDA recently announced that applications are now being accepted for the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program for the 2021/2022 school year. Aspiring high school seniors are encouraged to apply before the January 31, 2021 deadline.

USDA/1890 National Scholars are selected by participating USDA agencies based on recommendations of participating 1890 Land-Grant Universities. USDA/1890 scholarship recipients receive full tuition, fees, books, summer employment and employee benefits for each of the four years they pursue a bachelor’s degree. The partnering institutions provide room and board. Recipients are required to work one year (with pay) at USDA for each year they receive the scholarship. The 2018 Farm Bill authorizes conversion to full-time employment upon graduation and successful completion of the program.

Capital Farm Credit Scholarship Program
Deadline: February 26, 2021
Capital Farm Credit will be awarding two (2) one-time $1,000 scholarships to 2021 graduating Seniors. See the attached scholarship application for more information.

MLK Scholarship
Deadline: February 26, 2021

The 2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship application is now available! This scholarship helps to fund a portion of the college tuition of several deserving students, regardless of race or ethnicity. This scholarship can be applied to any 2 or 4-year institution as well as technical/trade schools.

To be eligible students must:
·       Be a graduating senior from a school in Bexar County
·       Be a Bexar County resident for one year and a U.S. Citizen
·       Have a minimum, cumulative GPA of 2.5 or equivalent (80 or higher)
 
Students may access and complete the application at https://www.sanantonio.gov/MLK/MLKScholarship. Any questions may be emailed to Mr. Jay Tillman at  [email protected] .

San Antonio A&M Club Foundation Opportunity Scholarship Award
Deadline: March 4, 2021

The 2021 San Antonio A&M Club Foundation Opportunity Award Scholarship Application is now available!

The San Antonio A&M Club, through its Foundation, awards $12,000 academic scholarships to high school students from Bexar County who have been unconditionally accepted to Texas A&M University at either the College Station or Galveston Campus. Eligible students must reside in Bexar County or attend high school in Bexar County at the time of graduation.

Alamo Colleges Foundation Scholarship Program
Deadline: April 5, 2021
The Alamo College Foundation is currently accepting scholarship applications to the following colleges for academic year 2021-2022: San Antonio College, St. Philip's College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College, and Northeast Lakeview College.
 
Attached is a flier with scholarship application information, as well as information about the San Antonio Livestock Exposition (S.A.L.E.) scholarship opportunity for students interested in the Agriculture Sciences Program at Palo Alto College. To be considered for the S.A.L.E. scholarship, students must major in the Agriculture Sciences Program at Palo Alto College.
