AMP Happenings for the Week of February 17th

Howdy AMP families and students,

The following are important events and happenings for the week of February 17th.

Upcoming Events 
  • February 17th - No school for students (district-wide staff development)
  • February 24th - 28th - National FFA Week
  • March 6th - Chapter FFA Degree application deadline

Student Holiday
There will be no school for students on Monday, February 17th in observance of President's Day.

National FFA Week Celebration

National FFA Week is February 22-29, 2020. The James Madison FFA officer team has created a way for all FFA members to celebrate FFA Week with daily dress up days. 
  • Monday, February 24th - Camo Day
  • Tuesday, February 25th - Dress like an ag teacher / farmer
  • Wednesday, February 26th - College Day - wear your college gear
  • Thursday, February 27th - FFA Spirit Day - wear your blue and gold
  • Friday, February 28th - Chapter T-Shirt Day

Chapter FFA Degree Application
The online application window is currently open until March 6, 2020 at 5:00pm for students to apply for the Chapter FFA Degree. The Chapter FFA Degree is a membership degree for FFA members that are in at least their second year of membership and have obtained the Greenhand FFA Degree.

The application is an online process and can be accessed by clicking HERE.

The official ceremony for the Chapter FFA Degree will be held on March 23, 2020 at 6:30pm in the AMP Commons.

Guidance and Counseling News
Have You Been Accepted?
Seniors, if you have been accepted to a college or university, please bring a copy of your acceptance letter to the AMP Administration office so that we can recognize your accomplishment on our "Con-GRAD-ulations" bulletin board.

Scholarship Opportunities
All seniors planning to go to college/university should complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to see if you qualify for grants, loans and/or institution scholarships. The FAFSA opened on October 1st and is available at www.fafsa.gov

Bill Wyche Jr. Memorial Fund Scholarship
Deadline: April 30, 2020
The Texas Section of the Society for Range Management (TSSRM) is offering an annual $2,000 college scholarship from the Bill Wyche, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund to deserving high school seniors who are interested in pursuing agriculture studies.

Ducks Unlimited
Deadline: March 1, 2020

Ducks Unlimited (DU) launched its inaugural national scholarship program offering graduating high school seniors who are DU members* the opportunity to advance their education.  The application deadline each year is March 1st.

DU will annually award 61 one-time scholarships to eligible applicants at the following levels:
  • 50 Varsity scholarships at $500 each
  • 10 Conservation Scholarships at $1,000 each
  • 1 National Scholarship of $10,000
*Students can join DU online for $15.  They will be sent a membership number which will be used for the scholarship application.

Jason Krueger Memorial Scholarship
Deadline: April 10, 2020

Applicants must be a senior in high school, an active FFA or 4-H member, and have shown a steer in one or more of the major livestock shows.

Schaefer Outfitter Scholarship
Deadline: April 30, 2020

Schaefer Outfitter will offer a scholarship of $1,000 to be paid to any college or university towards the cost of tuition.  For this scholarship opportunity, you must be applying to enroll in college for the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 semesters to study Agriculture, or already be enrolled in a related program.  The deadline is April 30, 2020.

Texas A&M University Soil & Crop Sciences Scholarship
Are you interested in pursuing a degree in Plant and Environmental Soil Sciences or Turfgrass Science? The Department of Soil & Crop Sciences at TAMU is one of the largest departments of its kind in the nation that equips students with the knowledge and skills to manage soil, water and plant systems that are sustainable for both civilization and the environment.
