Howdy AMP families and students,
The following are important events and happenings for the week of January 17th. Upcoming Events
2022 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction - January 14-17, 2022 The 2022 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction is a virtual event hosted online by StockShowAuctions.com on Friday, January 14 – Monday, January 17, 2022. This is our second year to host an online auction to directly benefit the students that participated in the 2022 North East Ag Fair held January 7-8, 2022. The auction format that is being utilized is a Premium Auction which acts as a fundraiser for the student exhibitors. Bidders will not be purchasing the rights of lease or ownership to the project being offered in the Premium Auction, however, the bidder will simply be making a financial donation to student exhibitors by placing an "Add On" bid to the project being offered. We hope you will spread the word and consider supporting the 2022 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction to reward our students for their time, effort, and finances that they have invested into these agricultural projects. CDE Opportunities for Students Career Development Events (CDE) are excellent opportunities for students to engage in competitive contests through the FFA. The team selection process is now occurring, so interested students need to make contact with the specific teachers listed below if interested in competing.
Texas FFA Ford Leadership Scholars Program The Ford Leadership Scholars program is a result of the Texas FFA Foundation and Texas Ford Dealers partnership to enhance the leadership opportunities of Texas FFA members. The purpose of the program is to: 1) Identify students who exhibit high levels of leadership at the chapter level. 2) Engage these identified students in a leadership development program created to enhance those qualities of leadership. 3) Recognize the Scholars to build a remarkable legacy for the future of our state and nation. The objective of the training week is to equip students to go back to their communities to develop substantial and sustainable community service capstone projects. The deadline for application to the Ford Leadership Scholars Program is January 19th. Interested students must see Mr. Anderson for an application. Potential Steer Feeders Meeting - February 7th Mrs. McMullan will be hosting a meeting on Monday, February 7th at 6:30pm in AG125 for students and their parents that are interested in raising and exhibiting a market steer project next school year. Scholarship Opportunities Coolidge Scholarship (for current HS Juniors only may apply) Deadline: January 19, 2022 The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride, four-year, merit scholarship that may be used by recipients for undergraduate study at any accredited college or university in the United States. Any current high school junior who plans to enroll in college in the fall of 2023 and is an American citizen or legal permanent resident is eligible to apply (current high school seniors are not eligible to apply). Winners may use the scholarship to pursue any academic major. Academic excellence is the primary criterion considered by the Coolidge Scholarship. Secondary criteria include an interest in public policy and an appreciation of the values President Coolidge championed. Successful candidates will also demonstrate humility and have a record of genuine service to their communities. A complete description of the scholarship’s criteria is available here. The competition for the Coolidge Scholarship is significant -- only a few new Coolidge Scholarships are awarded each year from a pool of candidates that spans the entire country. Even so, students have reported to us in past years they were glad to have applied even if they didn’t win because the experience helped prepare them for college applications later on. Furthermore, the Coolidge Foundation invites one hundred of the top Coolidge Scholarship applicants to participate in the Coolidge Senators Program, which includes an all-expenses-paid Summit in Washington, D.C. and a $1,000 scholarship. This year Coolidge Senators met important leaders such as David Malpass, president of the World Bank, and Homer Hickam, the NASA scientist whose own inspiring boyhood formed the basis for the film October Sky. Students also had the chance to meet with key executives in medical science and banking. Scholarship applicants are automatically considered for the Senators Program. Sam J. Riklin Rotary Diploma Plus Program Deadline: January 24, 2022 The purpose of this program is to provide financial assistance to students who are at risk of not graduating from High School due to financial concerns or hardships. This is needs based and is not based on your academic performance. If you are selected, you will receive a $1,000 stipend during your senior year in high school. Qualifications 1) You must be classified as a junior during the 2021-2022 school year. 2) Attend a high school in Bexar County.
