AMP Happenings for the Week of January 24th

Howdy AMP families and students,

The following are important events and happenings for the week of January 24th.

  • Tuesday, January 25, 2022 - AMP Invitational Open House for 2022-2023 incoming students from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at the AMP Complex
  • Friday, January 28, 2022 - 3 Weeks Progress Reports available in Skyward Family Access
  • Thursday, February 3, 2022 - James Madison FFA Booster Club General Meeting @ 6:30PM in AMP Commons

2022 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction Donor Lists
AMP students that participated in the 2022 North East Ag Fair Premium Auction this past week were emailed on Friday, January 21st their list of donors for their auction lot and instructions for writing "Thank You" notes, cards, or letters to their donors.

Students should check the email account they used when creating their online auction account with StockShowAuctions.com for the donor list and instructions.

"Thank You's" are due in the AMP Administration office no later than Friday, February 4th.

2022 - 2023 Course Selection Process
Students will be able to begin entering their 2022-2023 course selections beginning the week of January 24th through February 18th. All course selections will be entered by the student using Skyward Student Access.

Mrs. Suarez will be meeting with all 11th grade AMP students the week of January 31st and 9th and 10th grade AMP students the week of February 7th to provide guidance on course selection and dual credit opportunities for next school year.

CDE Opportunities for Students
Career Development Events (CDE) are excellent opportunities for students to engage in competitive contests through the FFA. The team selection process is now occurring, so interested students need to make contact with the specific teachers listed below if interested in competing.

Potential Steer Feeders Meeting - February 7th
Mrs. McMullan will be hosting a meeting on Monday, February 7th at 6:30pm in AG125 for students and their parents that are interested in raising and exhibiting a market steer project next school year. Attendance of both students and parents is mandatory.

2022 National Ag Day Essay Contest
The theme for this year is American Agriculture: Growing a Climate for Tomorrow. This national essay contest is divided into two categories of competition: written essay and video essay. Both winners will receive $1,000. The contest is open to students enrolled in grades 9 - 12. The deadline to submit essays is Monday, January 31, 2022.

Guidance and Counseling News
Honor Graduate Designation
All honor graduate seniors will be notified by email in January, 2022, through the NEISD student email, of their official honor graduate designation. The honor graduate designations include the following:
  • Summa Cum Laude: 100+ Overall Weighted Grade Average
  • Magna Cum Laude: 95-99 Overall Weighted Grade Average
  • Cum Laude: 90-94 Weighted Grade Average
This designation is based on all courses taken throughout high school and is not viewable on the student’s transcript or Skyward Family Access. 

Attention Seniors
The completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required by all graduating seniors as of the 2021-2022 school year. Click HERE to complete the FAFSA and satisfy this requirement for graduation.

Upcoming ACT/SAT Weekend Testing Opportunities
Visit the James Madison HS Counseling Department Smore to learn more about upcoming college entrance exams and to register for the ACT and/or SAT. 

Extended After Hours Virtual Tutoring
NEISD is providing extended after hours tutoring for high school students from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Monday through Thursday. Tutoring is available in the following core courses: English I, II, III & IV, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, OnRamps Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Scholarship Opportunities
Sam J. Riklin Rotary Diploma Plus Program
Deadline: January 24, 2022

The purpose of this program is to provide financial assistance to students who are at risk of not graduating from High School due to financial concerns or hardships. This is needs based and is not based on your academic performance. If you are selected, you will receive a $1,000 stipend during your senior year in high school.

Qualifications 1) You must be classified as a junior during the 2021-2022 school year. 2) Attend a high school in Bexar County.

Corn Producers / Corn Growers Scholarships
Deadline: January 31, 2022

Students can apply to scholarships from both the Texas Corn Producers (TCP) and the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) with one application. San Antonio A&M Club Foundation Opportunity Award Scholarship
Deadline: March 11, 2022

As Aggies, we are called to help and serve others, and the San Antonio A&M Club is proud to be able to do so through our scholarship program. The San Antonio A&M Club Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operated by Former Students of Texas A&M University living in the Bexar County area. Our scholarships are funded by donations raised through the San Antonio A&M Club members and are not awarded by Texas A&M University. This scholarship is awarded by the San Antonio A&M Club Foundation and is over and above any scholarship for which the student might apply for at the University level.
 
The San Antonio A&M Club Foundation is administered without regard to race, color, religion, creed, gender or national origin. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following two conditions: 
  • Applicants must be graduating from a high school in Bexar County or reside in Bexar County at the time of graduation. Students who reside in Bexar County but attend a high school outside of Bexar County or participate in homeschooling or online education programs are eligible. 
  • Applicants must be unconditionally admitted to Texas A&M University College Station, Galveston, or Qatar campus, and be enrolled for the Fall 2022 semester. The scholarship is not available to students seeking admission to other universities in the Texas A&M University System. This scholarship is not available to students who are conditionally admitted as part of Blinn TEAM, Engineering at Blinn or other transition academic program.
The 2022 scholarship application is available for electronic completion at aggiepark.com under the scholarship tab on the menu bar. Submission guidelines and additional information about our scholarships can be found at aggiepark.com. Applicants’ use of the electronic Application is preferred. For those who are not able to access or complete the electronic Application, Aggie Park staff will supply a paper, Adobe or Word version of the Application upon request.
 
The application deadline is 5:00pm on March 11, 2022.
