AMP Happenings for the Week of January 27th

Howdy AMP families and students,

The following are important events and happenings for the week of January 27th.

Upcoming Events 
  • January 13th - 31st - "Share the Warmth" Coat Drive
  • February 4th - Rodeo Program Sales Volunteer Training at 6:30pm in AMP Commons
  • February 6th - 9th - Rodeo Program Sales at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo

"Share the Warmth" Coat Drive
The James Madison FFA Chapter is sponsoring the "Share the Warmth" Coat Drive for the month of January. Donations for new or gently used women's and/or children's winter clothing of all sizes are being accepted in the AMP Administration office until January 31st.

All donations will be delivered to the San Antonio Battered Women and Children's Shelter in order to keep those in need warm this winter. A flier is attached to this post with details.

Are you Ready to Rodeo?
The James Madison FFA Booster Club will again partner with the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo to sell rodeo programs at the 2020 rodeo performances.

This is a major fundraiser of the FFA Booster Club and both parent and student volunteers are needed in order for this to be successful. Rodeo program sales will be the first 6 rodeo performances and the time commitment for volunteers is 2-1/2 hours at each rodeo performance.

A minimum of 24 volunteers are needed, but we welcome more! To volunteer, go to the following website: https://tinyurl.com/2020SArodeoprogramsales. The rodeo performances are as follows:
  1. Thursday, February 6th @ 7:00PM - PRCA Rodeo w/ Cody Johnson
  2. Friday, February 7th @ 7:00PM - PRCA Rodeo w/ Sammy Hagar and the Circle 
  3. Saturday, February 8th @ 1:00PM - PRCA Rodeo w/ To Be Announced
  4. Saturday, February 8th @ 7:00PM - PRCA Rodeo w/ Dustin Lynch
  5. Sunday, February 9th @ 1:00PM - PRCA Rodeo w/ Aaron Watson
  6. Sunday, February 9th @ 7:00PM - PRCA Rodeo w/  Jon Pardi

A volunteer training meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 4th at 6:30pm in the AMP Commons.

AMP Application Period for 2020-2021 School Year is Now Open for Current 8th Graders
The AMP application period for the 2020-2021 school year is open until January 27, 2020 for current 8th graders. If you have an 8th grader or know of an 8th grader that is interested in studying at the AMP next school year, they may begin the application by going to https://tinyurl.com/AMPenrollmentprocess.

Potential Beef Cattle Feeders Meeting - Monday, January 27th
Mrs. McMullan will be hosting a meeting on Monday, January 27th at 6:30pm in AG125 for students and their parents that are interested in raising and exhibiting a beef cattle project next school year. Attendance of both students and parents is mandatory.

Guidance and Counseling News
2020 - 2021 School Year Course Registration Process
On Monday, January 27th, all students can begin to enter their schedule requests into their Student/Family Portal accounts in Skyward.  Instructions for entering courses into the Skyward Student/Family Portal are attached to this post.

Family Specialist News
Family Engagement Training – February 7, 2020– Join us for our 18th Annual Family Engagement Training – we will have free sessions on topics including: strategies for academic success, family wellbeing and communication with teens. Limited childcare is available. Lunch provided!  Contact Ms. Villegas, [email protected] to confirm spot on the bus (if you would like to meet at Madison and ride the NEISD bus to the NEISD Community Learning Center).

Family Engagement Workshops and Classes – Spring registration is available. If you are interested in taking workshops, training or classes please reach out to Ms. Villegas, [email protected] to register. If you complete a total 23 hours of trainings, workshops or classes, you qualify to participate in the district wide ceremony at the end of the year.

Have You Been Accepted?
Seniors, if you have been accepted to a college or university, please bring a copy of your acceptance letter to the AMP Administration office so that we can recognize your accomplishment on our "Con-GRAD-ulations" bulletin board.

Scholarship Opportunities
Lockheed Martin Vocational Scholarship Application
Deadline: March 12, 2020
Lockheed Martin has established a new scholarship program to provide opportunities to students pursuing a degree or vocational-technical certificate at a vocational-technical school, trade school, two-year community college or state college. In 2020, up to 151 awards of $6,600 each are offered for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.
