James Madison FFA Members Compete in Leadership Development Events On Thursday, November 11th, AMP students competed in the first level of competition at the Alamo District FFA LDEs. There were more than 45 AMP students that competed in 9 different LDEs. We are excited to announce that 8 teams are advancing to the Area 7 FFA LDEs that will take place on Wednesday, November 17th. Results are as follows for the Alamo District FFA LDEs: Agriculture Advocacy – 1st place (Advancing to Area competition) Jr. Creed Speaking – 1st place (Advancing to Area competition) and 3rd place Sr. Creed Speaking - 1st place (Advancing to Area competition) and 7th place Job Interview – 2nd place (Advancing to Area competition) Sr. Quiz – 2nd place (Advancing to Area competition) Public Relations – 4th place and 5th place Radio Broadcasting – 2nd place (Advancing to Area competition) and 3rd place Jr. Skills – 1st place (Advancing to Area competition) and 3rd place Sr. Skills – 2nd place (Advancing to Area competition) and 3rd place 2022 North East Ag Fair Website is LIVE! The website and resources have been updated for the 2022 North East Ag Fair scheduled to be held January 7-8, 2022. The website address is https://www.northeastagfair.com/. Besides the opportunity for students that are raising livestock for the major livestock shows to participate, we will be hosting the other competitions to include the Creative Arts competition, BBQ Cook-Off, Ag Mechanics Build-Off, and Fastest Torch in the West. In addition, we are having an online Premium Auction to benefit eligible exhibitors of the North East Ag Fair. Students wishing to compete in the 2022 North East Ag Fair can find the Premium Booklet and entry forms online at: https://northeastagfair.weebly.com/exhibitors.html. The deadline to enter all competitions at the 2022 North East Ag Fair is Friday, December 3, 2021. The FFA Booster Club is seeking business and family sponsors for the North East Ag Fair. Sponsorship levels are available from $500 to $2500. Potential sponsors can find out more information about the sponsorship opportunities by going to: https://northeastagfair.weebly.com/sponsors.html. The FFA Booster Club is also putting out an ALL CALL to interested retail vendors that would like to sell their goods and/or services at the 2022 North East Ag Fair. Also a few sponsorships are available for the custom trophy belt buckles that will be awarded this year at the 2022 North East Ag Fair. The sponsorship cost is $200.00 per buckle and the following buckles are available for sponsorship:

National FFA SAE Grant Program National FFA Association SAE Grant Program Deadline: November 15, 2021 The National FFA Association has opened the application window for the 2021 Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) Grant Program from now until November 15, 2021. This year, the National FFA has 387 grants to award. In 2020, almost 50% of applicants who completed the application process received a grant. AMP College & Career Fair - November 19th The AMP will be hosting an agriculture focused College & Career Fair on Friday, November 19th from 10:50AM to 1:00PM in the AMP Commons. All AMP students will be able to attend the fair either during their 4th, 5th, or 6th period AMP course or lunch period. Post-secondary representatives from Texas universities, colleges and technical schools will be in attendance to provide AMP students with information about educational opportunities in agriculture after high school. Representatives will also be in attendance from agencies and employers to share career opportunities with AMP students in the areas of agriculture. 2021-2022 James Madison FFA Dues One of the expectations for every AMP student is to be an active participant in the AMP. Active participation can be achieved by becoming a member of the James Madison FFA (the student leadership organization for AMP students) and participating in any of the literally 100+ FFA activities that will be offered this school year. FFA dues are $20.00 for the entire school year and can be paid (cash or check) in the AMP Administration office. With membership in the FFA, AMP students will have access to outstanding leadership and career development opportunities, supervised agricultural experiences, degrees, awards, and scholarships. FFA members will also receive a James Madison FFA commemorative t-shirt (the supplier of t-shirts has experienced extremely long delays in shipping but we are expecting t-shirts before the Thanksgiving break). JMHS Turkey Trot James Madison HS students and families, James Madison HS cluster schools, and the James Madison HS community are all welcome to attend the first Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk at James Madison High School! It will be held on Saturday morning, November 20th. Check-in begins at 7:00am and race/walk begins at 8:00am. It's a FREE event for all participants. We welcome non-perishable donations of food or gift cards to help fill the JMHS Food Pantry. Please register in advance and wear your costumes to show your spirit of giving back. The registration link can be found by clicking HERE. For those of you that would like to be a vendor at this event, please register online by clicking HERE. You will be able to promote your business, club or organization at this event, however, you will not be able to sell anything at this event. Guidance and Counseling News Extended After Hours Virtual Tutoring NEISD is providing extended after hours tutoring for high school students from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Monday through Thursday. Tutoring is available in the following core courses: English I, II, III & IV, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, OnRamps Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. NEISD College Night The NEISD College Night will be held on Wednesday, November 17th at Blossom Athletic Center from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. College and University representatives from Texas and throughout the nation will have informational booths available to visit with prospective students. Also, Financial Aid sessions will be held the same evening to assist families with completing the FAFSA. Scholarship Opportunities National FFA Scholarship Program Deadline: January 5, 2022 The National FFA Scholarship Program is now open. Whether students are planning on attending a specialized training program or seeking a four-year degree, the National FFA Scholarship Program has opportunities for all. Scholarships support FFA high school seniors and collegiate members as well as non-FFA students. Just one application is required for multiple scholarship opportunities totaling close to $2 million dollars. Everything students need to successfully complete the application can be found on the scholarship website. The scholarship application closes on January 5, 2022. Texas Farm Credit Scholarship Program Deadline: January 15, 2022 Texas Farm Credit will present $5,000 postsecondary scholarships to ten future ag leaders. Winners will be announced in May 2022. To qualify, an applicant must be a high school senior, be a member of FFA or 4-H, plan to pursue a college degree, submit a current high school transcript, resume, and essay (prompt at link above). Click the link above in the title for further details. Sam J. Riklin Rotary Diploma Plus Program Deadline: January 24, 2022 The purpose of this program is to provide financial assistance to students who are at risk of not graduating from High School due to financial concerns or hardships. This is needs based and is not based on your academic performance. If you are selected, you will receive a $1,000 stipend during your senior year in high school. Qualifications 1) You must be classified as a junior during the 2021-2022 school year. 2) Attend a high school in Bexar County. Corn Producers / Corn Growers Scholarships Deadline: January 31, 2022 Students can apply to scholarships from both the Texas Corn Producers (TCP) and the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) with one application.
