The following are important events and happenings for the week of November 18th. Upcoming Events
Fundraiser Smoked Turkey Breasts The fundraiser smoked turkey breasts that were produced by the AMP Food Processing students will be available for pickup on Monday, November 18th from 4:15pm to 5:30pm in the Meats laboratory located on the first floor of the K-Building. Ford Driving Skills for Life Texas FFA members are encouraged to participate in the Ford Driving Skills for Life online driving academy. Teen drivers will be challenged, and encouraged, to complete the online Academy between November 11 – December 13, 2019. This is a simple online course which encourages safer student drivers. After completing the course, students will receive a “CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION.” Scan or email the completed certificate to the Texas FFA Foundation ([email protected]) to be entered for a weekly prize. Each week Texas FFA will draw a winner for those who have completed the online academy! Here’s when they will be drawing and what they are giving away: Nov. 18 – 22: Amazon Gift Card Nov. 25 – 29: PIERCE Cooler Dec. 2 – 6: Wireless Headphones / Airpods Dec. 9 – 13: Apple iPad Register for the online Academy at: https://www.drivingskillsforlife.com/academy. AMP Application Period for 2020-2021 School Year is Now Open for Current 8th Graders The AMP application period for the 2020-2021 school year is open until January 27, 2020 for current 8th graders. If you have an 8th grader or know of an 8th grader that is interested in studying at the AMP next school year, they may begin the application by going to https://tinyurl.com/AMPenrollmentprocess. Guidance and Counseling News AMP College and Career Fair - November 22nd The annual AMP College and Career Fair will be held on Friday, November 22nd from 11:30am to 2:30pm in the AMP Complex. Post-secondary representatives from Texas universities, colleges and technical schools will be in attendance to provide AMP students with information about educational opportunities in agriculture after high school. Representatives will also be in attendance from agencies and employers to share career opportunities with AMP students in the areas of agriculture. Expected colleges/universities to be in attendance are: West Texas A&M University, Angelo State University, Abilene Christian University, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, Tarleton State University, Sul Ross State University, Texas A&M University - College Station, Iowa State University, Sam Houston State University, Texas State University, Texas A&M University - Commerce, Blinn College, Palo Alto College, Vernon College, South Texas Vocational Technical Institute, and more! Have You Been Accepted? Seniors, if you have been accepted to a college or university, please bring a copy of your acceptance letter to the AMP Administration office so that we can recognize your accomplishment on our "Con-GRAD-ulations" bulletin board. Scholarship Opportunity National FFA Scholarship Application Deadline: January 15, 2020 The online application for the National FFA Scholarship is currently open until January 15, 2020. These National FFA scholarships are sponsored by businesses and individuals through the National FFA Foundation and are given for a variety of experiences, career goals and higher education plans. In order for students to complete the online application, they must see Mr. Anderson prior to beginning the application to receive their unique FFA Member ID. Bexar County Agriculture/Natural Resource Scholarship Deadline: March 15, 2020 Ag Scholarships are now available for High School Seniors who wish to further their education. A scholarship is a good way to finance the student's studies and enables them to fully concentrate on getting their degree instead of worrying about money issues. Scholarships are being given by the Bexar County Agriculture/Natural Resource Committee under the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, 3355 Cherry Ridge, Suite 212, San Antonio, TX. 78230, (210) 631-0400, Sam Womble, Ag Extension Agent. Vetericyn Animal Wellness Scholarship Deadline: March 15, 2020 Vetericyn® Animal Wellness is excited to announce Vetericyn’s 2020 Future Leaders of Agriculture & Veterinary Sciences Scholarship! We will be awarding one $2,000 scholarship and one $1,000 scholarship to graduating high school seniors to help in their pursuit of higher education in the field of agriculture, including animal health and food science. Baumberger Endowment Scholarship Deadline: Feb 1, 2020 Applicant must be a senior, reside in Texas for past 10 years, have a minimum score of 1000 on the SAT or a 22 on the ACT, rank in the top 50% of the senior class, attend college in Texas, and be in need of financial assistance in order to attend college. Application process opens on Dec 1, 2019. San Antonio A&M Club Foundation Opportunity Award Scholarship Deadline: March 5, 2020 Applications now available. Applicant must reside in Bexar County. Eight $12,000 scholarships will be awarded. Finalists will be asked to appear for an in-person interview with a committee.
