Howdy AMP families and students, The following are important events and happenings for the week of October 14th. Student Holiday - Monday, October 14th Students will NOT have school on Monday, October 14th due to it being a district-wide staff development day. Upcoming Events
FFA Livestock Project T-shirts and Senior T-shirts Have Arrived The FFA Livestock Project t-shirts and Senior T-shirts have arrived and will be available for pick up on October 19th at the Fall Challenge Goat and Lamb Prospect Show. 2019 North East Ag Fair Everyone is cordially invited to the 9th Annual North East Ag Fair to be held on Saturday, October 26th from 8:00am to 4:00pm at the AMP Complex. The purpose of the Ag Fair is to engage our North East community in a day full of activities showcasing the skills of students in the AMP through events such as livestock exhibition, agricultural mechanics skill-a-thon, BBQ cook-off, and a Baked Goods and Photography contest. The day will also host retail vendors and a Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume contest to ensure something for the whole family. Besides the North East Ag Fair Livestock Show, there are several other ways that students can participate and compete during the Ag Fair: "The Fastest Torch in the West" Contest, Ag Mechanics Build-Off Contest, BBQ Cook-Off Competition, Baked Goods Contest, and Agriculture Photography Contest. Entry forms and information about these contest opportunities for all students can be found on the AMP website at http://agrisciencemagnetprogram.weebly.com/north-east-ag-fair.html. The FFA Booster Club is also putting out an ALL CALL to interested retail vendors that would like to sell their goods and/or services at the 2019 Ag Fair. FFA Booster Club is Seeking Buckle Sponsorships The FFA Booster Club is in need of individual and business sponsorships for the custom trophy belt buckles that will be awarded this year at the North East Ag Fair, the Fall Challenge Lamb and Goat Prospect Show, the Showmanship Shootout, and the AMP Awards Gala. In all, 36 belt buckles will be awarded this year and the sponsorship cost is $150 per buckle. Sponsors may make their donation online at https://squareup.com/market/james-madison-ffa-booster. Volunteers Needed for October 19th and October 26th The James Madison FFA Booster Club is needing parent/guardian volunteers for their two events this month. Fall Gala Social - Tickets on Sale Now! Tickets are on sale now for the annual James Madison FFA Booster Club Fall Gala Social to be held on Saturday, November 16th from 6:00pm to 11:00pm at the Voigt Center in Hollywood Park. Tickets are $40.00 per person and include dinner, open bar, live and silent auctions, music, and much more. Tickets can be purchased ONLINE or at the following Booster Club events: Oct. 19th - Fall Challenge Goat and Lamb Prospect Show; Oct. 26th - North East Ag Fair; Nov 11th - James Madison FFA Chapter Meeting/Dodgeball Tournament. Guidance and Counseling News PSAT/SAT - October 16th All 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will be taking the PSAT on Wednesday, October 16th during the school day. Seniors that opted into taking the SAT will also be testing during the school day on October 16th. Seniors that have chosen not to take the SAT will have late arrival at 12:00 noon. Texas A&M - Chevron Engineering Academy Information Session - October 26th Are you a student interested in pursuing a degree and career in the many fields of Engineering? If so, you are invited to the Texas A&M - Chevron Engineering Academy Information Session on Saturday, October 26th at 1:00pm at Cafe' College in downtown San Antonio. Come and learn how to start your engineering degree locally in San Antonio! To register for the information session, click on the following link: tx.ag/ENGEacademy2019OCT. There is also a flier at the bottom of the post to learn more about this great opportunity to study engineering in San Antonio from Texas A&M faculty. NEISD College Night - October 30th The annual NEISD College Night will take place at Blossom Athletic Center on October 30th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Over 100 colleges and universities will be in attendance and financial aid sessions will be held for parents. Scholarship Opportunity Norman Vestal Memorial Rotary Scholarship The Rotary Club of San Antonio is now accepting applications for the 2020-2021 Norman Vestal Memorial Rotary Scholarship. Please see the attached flier for more information. ELIGIBILITY • Enrolled in a high school in Bexar County and classified as a Senior during the 2019-2020 school year. • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. • Cannot be the child or grandchild of a Rotarian. • Must plan to attend college during the 2020-2021 academic year at an accredited college or university. • Must be pursuing a degree in Agri-Life (to include Agri-Business) DEADLINE - The deadline to apply for the 2020-2021 Norman Vestal Memorial Rotary Scholarship is Friday, March 6, 2020. ABOUT NORMAN VESTAL Norman Vestal was a tireless supporter of young men and women from our community who demonstrated an interest in Agriculture. He worked as a County Agent for the Texas Agriculture Extension office for over 30 years and was awarded County Agent Emeritus by the Texas A&M Board of Regents upon his retirement. To honor Mr. Vestal’s commitment to Rotary and his support of future agriculture leaders, this scholarship was started in 2002. TAMU Soil & Crop Sciences Scholarship The Soil & Crop Sciences Department at Texas A&M University has a great opportunity for students wanting to major in Plant & Environmental Soil Science and Turfgrass Science. The department is awarding $16,000 scholarships to incoming freshmen and $8000 scholarships to transfer students.
