AMP Happenings for the Week of September 23rd

Howdy AMP families and students,

The following are important events and happenings for the week of September 23rd.

ROUND UP & Benefit Night at Lennys Grill & Subs

The James Madison FFA Booster Club has partnered up with Lennys Grill & Subs to raise funds for the AMP Teacher SAE Grants and Teacher Appreciation Day Fund. The goal is to raise over $500.00. Visit Lennys Grill & Subs (17910 Bulverde Rd., Suite #101, San Antonio, TX 78259) between September 16th through October 20th and ROUND UP your total or make a donation while you enjoy their delicious subs and more!

2019 SAE Grant Program is Now Available
The James Madison FFA Booster Club is pleased to announce that the 2019 Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) Grant Program is now available for James Madison FFA members to make application for funding.

The purpose of the SAE Grant program is to provide FFA members with an opportunity to establish, improve, and/or maintain their SAE program through financial assistance.

The James Madison FFA Booster Club is responsible for reviewing, awarding and administering the SAE Grant program. The James Madison FFA Booster Club will determine the final amount of funds awarded to a FFA member not to exceed $500 per awarded grant.

The application period for the 2019-2020 school year is September 16, 2019 through October 31, 2019.

Annual James Madison FFA Chili Cook-off

The 2019 James Madison FFA Chili Cook-Off will be held in conjunction with the monthly meeting for the James Madison FFA Booster Club on Monday, October 7th. We will again have an adult and student divisions to the cook-off. So FFA members and their parents/guardians are both encouraged to participate by entering their favorite chili recipe to compete for the title of "Chili Cook-Off Champion"!

Students and adults can submit their Chili Cook-Off entry online by going to: http://agrisciencemagnetprogram.weebly.com/chili-cook-off.html. There is no cost to enter, so go ahead and click that link  to earn your bragging rights!

Contestants may check-in and set up their chili cook-off entries from 4:30pm to 5:30pm on Monday, October 7th in the AMP Commons. Chili must be ready for judging and serving by 6:00pm.

FFA Booster Club is Seeking Buckle Sponsorships
The FFA Booster Club is in need of individual and business sponsorships for the custom trophy belt buckles that will be awarded this year at the North East Ag Fair, the Fall Challenge Lamb and Goat Prospect Show, the Showmanship Shootout, and the AMP Awards Gala.

In all, 36 belt buckles will be awarded this year and the sponsorship cost is $150 per buckle. Sponsors may make their donation online at https://squareup.com/market/james-madison-ffa-booster.

Guidance and Counseling News
Junior and Senior Parent Night
The JMHS Counseling Department is hosting an informative session on graduation plans and more on Wednesday, September 25th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the Performing Arts Center.

Financial Aid / FAFSA Night
The JMHS Counseling Department is hosting a Financial Aid and FAFSA information event for graduating Seniors and their parents on October 2nd from 4:15pm to 7:00pm in the JMHS Library. This is a come and go event to learn more about financial aid, scholarships, grants and completing the FAFSA application.

AMP Dual Credit Opportunity
Spring Applications for Dual Credit has opened for AMP students currently enrolled in the courses below.  Dual credit is when the student is able to earn high school credit and college credit at the same time. Students will receive college credit through Palo Alto College and they are able to transfer their college credit to the university that they attend after graduation.
 
Dual Credit Courses :
Floral Design (Fall flex II ) Floral design DC packet attached
Advanced Animal Science (Spring 2020)
Wildlife Fisheries & Ecology (Spring 2020)
Horticultural Science (Spring 2020)
Agribusiness (Spring 2020)

Steps to Apply for Dual Credit:
  1. Pick up a Dual Credit Packet from your student’s AMP teacher. (Packets are attached)
  2. Complete the ApplyTexas Application for Palo Alto College by October 4th. Directions on how to complete the application are located in the Dual Credit packet.
  3. Students must turn in the CTE Dual credit Checklist and Parent consent Form found in the Dual credit packet to Mrs. Guerrero by October 4th.
  4. Students must take the TSI college placement exam to be admitted into Dual credit. Students can visit with Mrs. Guerrero to see if they are able to waive the TSI exam if they scored well on their PSAT/ SAT/ACT exams. The TSI is $20 and $5 for free/reduced students.  The TSI exam will be given at Madison on September 28th and October 12th. The TSI registration form is attached.

Scholarship Opportunities
Texas Farm Credit would like to take this opportunity to invite your students to submit their application to our Ag Student of the Month program and Marsha Martin Scholarship program. Students may apply for both programs by completing one simple application.

In addition to our two student scholarship programs, we are also offering a $500 Club Contribution to the SIX Marsha Martin winning student’s FFA or 4H Club.
