Howdy AMP families and students, The following are important events and happenings for the week of September 9th. 2019 Ag Olympics & Burger Bash Join us for our huge kick-off event for the 2019-2020 school year in the AMP with our annual Ag Olympics and Burger Bash on Monday, September 9th (rain or shine).
FFA Annual Meat and Cookie Fundraiser On Monday, September 9th, all AMP students will receive information and sales order brochures for our annual FFA Meat and Cookie Fundraiser. The dates of the fundraiser are from September 9 - 20, 2019. Orders can also be taken by way of a virtual brochure that will allow customers to place their orders on an electronic device and provide the option to pay using a credit/debit card. All meat and cookies ordered through this fundraiser will be delivered to the AMP the week prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. Also note, the Smoked Turkey Breast being sold through this fundraiser will be produced in house by the students in the AMP food processing classes. FFA Livestock Project T-shirts, Show Team Jackets & Vests, and Senior T-shirts The James Madison FFA Booster Club is currently taking orders until September 13th for this year's editions of livestock project t-shirts, show team jackets & vests, and Class of 2020 t-shirts. If ordering the Class of 2020 t-shirt, please make sure to PRINT your SENIORS name on the bottom of the order form. Order forms are available on the AMP Happenings for the Week of August 26th blog post. LDE/CDE Opportunities for Students Leadership Development Events (LDE) and Career Development Events (CDE) are excellent opportunities for students to engage in competitive contests through the FFA. The following interest meetings are being held in the coming weeks to give students information about specific events and to establish practice times for this semester.
Guidance and Counseling News James Madison HS has a new GO Center College Advisor named Mr. McKeon. The Go center is a great place to search college and university information as well as scholarships for seniors. Mr. McKeon can also help students register for the SAT and ACT exams. The Go Center is open Monday –Friday 8:15am- 4:30pm. Students can request to visit the GO Center in the counseling office. Parents and students interested in making an appointment with Mr. McKeon can call 210-356-1416. The following universities will be visiting the GO Center this semester. Students can sign up to visit with the representative in the GO Center before or after school. September 9th : Texas A&M University- College Station, 9am September 18th: Texas State University- San Marcos, 9 am September 30th : University of Texas at Austin, 9 am October 1st : Texas A&M University - San Antonio, 9 am October 10th: Texas A&M University- College Station, 9 am October 21st : Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, 9 am October 22nd : Trinity University, 9 am November 13th: Texas A&M University- College Station, 9am Seniors and Juniors: Start planning on when you would like to register for the ACT or SAT exam. Students can register for the SAT Exam at www.collegeboard.org and the ACT examat www.act.org. SAT and ACT exam dates and registration deadlines are attached. Reminder to Return Documentation On Friday, August 23rd, returning AMP students received a 2019-2020 AMP Student Contract, and if applicable, 2019-2020 CTE Transfer Request Form so that these documents can be up-to-date. It is very important that these documents be returned promptly to the AMP office. 2019-2020 James Madison FFA Dues One of the expectations for every AMP student is to be an active participant in the AMP. Active participation can be achieved by becoming a member of the James Madison FFA (the student leadership organization for AMP students) and participating in any of the literally 100+ FFA activities that will be offered this school year. FFA dues are $20.00 for the entire school year and we are accepting dues payments (cash or check) in the AMP Administration office. ROUND UP at Lennys Grill & Subs The James Madison FFA Booster Club has partnered up with Lennys Grill & Subs to raise funds for the AMP Teacher SAE Grants and Teacher Appreciation Day Fund. The goal is to raise over $500.00. Visit Lennys Grill & Subs (17910 Bulverde Rd., Suite #101, San Antonio, TX 78259) between September 16th through October 20th and ROUND UP your total or make a donation while you enjoy their delicious subs and more! Do You Have Goods and/or Services to Sell? The JM FFA Booster Club will be providing Vendor spaces at the 2019 North East Ag Fair on October 26th. If you would be interested in having a Vendor space at this community event, please send an email to [email protected] to get more information. The James Madison FFA Booster Club is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a membership of parents/guardians whose student(s) are actively attending the NEISD Agriscience Magnet Program (AMP). Membership for families is FREE. The FFA Booster Club exists to organize and conduct fundraising activities to provide financial support to all students of the AMP in order to enhance the educational and agricultural experiences of the students. Parents/guardians can support the James Madison FFA Booster Club by making the AMP a family experience. This can be done through a variety of means such as volunteering of your time and talents, introducing the FFA Booster Club to corporate sponsors, or financially supporting the FFA Booster Club with donations or purchasing merchandise. All parents/guardians are highly encouraged to sign up for the FFA Booster Club email distribution list by clicking HERE. You can also sign up for text message notifications by texting @JMFF to 81010. (Please note, the James Madison FFA Booster Club does NOT share contact information and will communicate with its members only in regards to matters pertaining to the James Madison FFA Booster Club, the James Madison FFA Chapter, and the Agriscience Magnet Program.)
