Howdy AMP families and students, The following are important events and happenings for the week of March 15th. Upcoming Events
James Madison FFA Tractor Technician Team Finishes 9th in State Contest Trinity Dial, Gage White, and Logan Wright represented James Madison FFA and the Area 7 FFA Association in the 2021 Texas FFA Tractor Technician contest held in Houston, TX on March 7th. 37 teams from across Texas competed in this year's competition and James Madison FFA finished 9th overall in the competition. Congratulations to Trinity, Gage, and Logan and thank you for representing James Madison FFA and the AMP! James Madison FFA BBQ Teams Qualify for State Championship Members of the James Madison FFA competed in the Texas High School BBQ Regional Cook-off hosted at the AMP Complex on Saturday, March 6th. The "Bar-B-QTs" represented by Savannah Bond, Autumn Juettemeyer, Mia Mendieta, Makayla Wiedenhoeft, and Lauren Williams were named the Grand Champions of the BBQ Regional Cook-off winning three of the 5 food categories (desserts, pork ribs, and beef briskets). The "Outlaw Cookers" earned the Reserve Grand Champion title at the cook-off and they won the chicken category. This team was represented by Fernando Belmontes, Troy Juettemeyer, Ben Martin, and Gage White. The "Bar-B-QTs" and "Outlaw Cookers" will advance to the Texas High School BBQ State Cook-off to be held in Llano, TX on April 24th. Congratulations and best of luck at the State Cook-off! 2021-2022 James Madison FFA Chapter Officer Application The James Madison FFA Chapter is looking for dedicated and hard-working students to serve as chapter officer for the 2021-2022 school year. Each year the chapter officer team plans and implements chapter events and encourages members to participate. In order to be considered for chapter officer, there is a series of steps one should complete. Students interested in becoming a chapter officer must join the following Google Classroom: https://classroom.google.com/c/Mjk3OTgzNjk1NzQz?cjc=rxvhgk4. The Google Classroom will contain all information and deadlines pertaining to the chapter officer application process. March JM FFA Booster Club General Meeting - March 16, 2021 The next monthly meeting of the FFA Booster Club will be Tuesday, March 16th at 6:30pm via Zoom. All parents/guardians of AMP students are encouraged to join us online for the Booster Club meeting. FFA Letter Jacket The Spring 2021 fitting and ordering for a FFA Letter Jacket will be held on Monday, March 22nd from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in the AMP Commons. To purchase a FFA Letter Jacket, students must complete the FFA Letter Jacket application (attached to this post) and return the completed application to the AMP Administration office by Friday, March 19th before receiving a letter jacket ordering packet. Letter jacket representatives will be fitting qualified students for jackets and taking orders on Monday, March 22nd. Payment in full must be made at the time of fitting and ordering. March Community Service Opportunity The James Madison FFA officers invite the AMP students to take part in this month's community service opportunity called "Warm Feet for Warriors". Help us collect socks for deployed service members and veterans in the VA Hospitals. Adult sized socks of any type are accepted but must be new and in original packaging. Donations are being collected until March 22nd in the AMP Administration Office. See the attached flier for more information. 2022 Major Show Swine Projects If a student is interested in learning more about raising and exhibiting a swine project for the 2022 major shows, please complete the following form: https://forms.gle/zkqU3Hed4bFC8Ars9 Mr. Baker will be providing information specific to raising and exhibiting swine projects for the 2022 major shows to those students that complete the form. Texas Brigades Summer Camps Texas Brigades summer camps offer hands-on activities and curriculum to immerse participants in sciences such as ecology, biology, botany, agronomy, and more. Participants are learning from field and collegiate professionals who offer insight on ag-related career opportunities and businesses, while learning how they can steward natural resources and advance natural resource conservation. Texas Brigades Summer Camps are available to within the 13-18 age range who show a passion for sciences, the outdoors, natural resources, wildlife, livestock, fishing, and even recreation. Applications made by the March 15th deadline are more likely to attend their preferred camp because they fill up fast. Potential applicants should go to the Texas Brigades website (https://www.texasbrigades.org/applications/) to apply or direct questions to [email protected]. Guidance and Counseling News Advanced Animal Science Dual Credit for 2021-2022 School Year If you are a Sophomore or Junior AMP student interested in taking Advanced Animal Science during the 2021-2022 school year, then you can earn 6 hours of college credit by taking Dual Credit. Students interested in taking the Advanced Animal Science Dual Credit will earn 1.15 ranking points by taking the exact same course as non-dual credit students. Interested students will need to complete the following steps to apply for dual credit.
Scholarship Opportunities San Antonio Education Partnership Scholarship Deadline: March 31, 2021 If you're staying local for college and attending one of the Alamo Colleges, UTSA, Texas A&M San Antonio, Incarnate Word, Our Lady of the Lake, St. Mary's, or Trinity, then please consider applying for the SAEP Scholarship! Scholarship awards range from $600-$1500. See the link above for additional details and to apply! Norman Vestal Memorial Rotary Scholarship Deadline: April 2, 2021 The Rotary Club of San Antonio will grant five (5) $500 scholarships to area graduating high school seniors from Bexar County who plan to pursue a career in Agrilife (to include Agribusiness and Ag Mechanics). Alamo Colleges Foundation Scholarship Program Deadline: April 5, 2021 The Alamo College Foundation is currently accepting scholarship applications to the following colleges for academic year 2021-2022: San Antonio College, St. Philip's College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College, and Northeast Lakeview College. Attached is a flier with scholarship application information, as well as information about the San Antonio Livestock Exposition (S.A.L.E.) scholarship opportunity for students interested in the Agriculture Sciences Program at Palo Alto College. To be considered for the S.A.L.E. scholarship, students must major in the Agriculture Sciences Program at Palo Alto College.
